What did you register for, Mark? I'm still on the fence. I'm thinking I might do Butterfield again, but I'm just not sure.

Melissa and I are signed up, too. Looking forward to it (in some sense, at least).

I suppose I have to do it too. <sigh>

Want to carpool and share a room?

Sure, Dan. BTW, isn't it around the Grand Tour area? I thought it has a Mulholland road there? Drive day of or spend the night before. Doesn't matter to me. :D

I *definitely* need to train for this sucka. I'm guessing that having mastered the 15mph flat ride isn't going to be enough...

Does anyone have a route description from last year? You can PM me with that if you'd rather not share it here.

Those out-of-towners, I would make reservations now. It filled last year http://www.goodnite.com/calabasas/

The route goes over Malibu Canyon to PCH. Returns on Topanga/Old Topanga to Mulholland. Mulholland all the way to little Sycamore to Yerba Buena to Cothrain to Deer Creek to PCH. Returns on Decker to Mulholland. Mulholland to Stunt Road to Piuma to Cold Canyon to Mulholland. Mulholland to Malibu Canyon to Lost Hills back to the Good Nite Inn.

w00t! Thanks Jim, that was quick!

Either you have lots of little research/data analyst elves working for you, or you just know an awful lot about everything.

Just for fun, and in the spirit of shared suffering, here's a topic on "favorite climbing routes": http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=336782

I just remember the ride from last year. If you ride enough in those mountains there are only so many canyons.

This is a good route and the stops are plentiful. Oh, and scoot will be at one or two of them, that is a bonus.

Deb,

Can you give us an idea of what Butterfield's new route will be like?

Urban Orange County, San Diego and Riverside Counties. Similar to before, but likely starting in Irvine and staying more coastal. We will NOT be riding through Temecula or Lake Elsinore. We're working on it and will hopefully have it figured out and posted in January.

By the way, I forgot to say the registration for the Solvang Spring Tour AND the Hoodoo 500 is also available via active.com.

Thank you so much for the information Deb. We're trying to figure out whether or not to do this one on our tandem (it would be our first double on it), so do you have an idea of what the elevation gain will be?

Definitely do-able on tandem.

Hi Deb (Minister of Information),

Re: Butterfield 2008:

I know you may not know for absolute sure yet, but can you give us an idea if the climbing will be more or less (total elevation) than the prev. Butterfields, or about the same?

I don't mind the climbing, I'm already signed up for it, but Jackie is a definitely a no-go if it's more climbing . . .

Also, could you advise where abouts in Irvine for the start? I know, I know, . . . I should just be patient; but I want to get the motel reservations and all that sorted.

Thanks!
Rick / OCRR

If we HAD this information, it would be posted!

We're working on it, ok? As soon as we have firm plans, we'll send out a Planet Ultra Newsletter. It shouldn't be more climbing than the old route. Might even be a little less. But no promises. Route making is no easy task - so we're not saying much until it's DONE.
