Have a 97 Manitou FS and it's got a 38mm seat post. Came with a band type clamp that actually bottoms out before tightening. Hoping that with the advent of carbon frames that someone is manufacturing either a clamp type front derailleur in 1.5" or something that works better than what came stock. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not sure if I fully understand what your frame is like, but sounds like you may need to start looking for an e-type FD.

So how about putting a shim of some kind under the derailleur clamp?

How many times have you shimmed a front derailleur clamp on a $2000 bike. Maybe the seat tube on an old Huffy road bike that's never going to get shifted but a FS mountain bike that's going to see lots of shifting? Have though about that but there needs to be a more appropriate answer. E-type may work but again that wasn't the choice of the frame manufacturer originally but may work but just add a ton of weight.

The obvious would be to contact Manitou and ask them what the bike was originally equipped with. Roger

Yeah, just give Doug Bradbury a call, he'll know. :)
