I just bought an early sixties Ernie Clements Falcon in Molteni orange. I know everyone thinks the falcon Merckx's are worse than british oral hygiene(and that aint pretty) but I understand that there was a comparable Merckx model for all of the high end falcon models.
The frame is full chrome with nice long point filed lugs, small plain gauge reynolds 531 sticker, long cast dropouts with no tab. The paint is molteni orange with a black head tube, a very handsome combo, the lugs, stays tips and a band of seat tube are left chromed. The decals, only just visible say ernie clements. I have only ever seen the san remo with chrome lugs and have never seen one of the nicer merckx models. This does not match the description of the competition in the catalogue nor of any of the other models. The frame is well made with filed long point lugs and is very light for plain gauge. The only original components are early sixties wienmann centerpulls. The fork seems to be a replacement, threaded all the way down with a flat for french headset spacers and poorly cut uptop. It also has a lamp bracket boss. Does any body have an early sixties falcon or a quality falcon merckx? They can't be that rare but i'll be damned if I can find any info on one. Any pictures or information you guys can give me would be great. Appreciate it alot.
