Finally, after all these months I've decided to post again to bikeforums. There is so much to say (err...type) about what has happened to me over the last several months since I bought a bike that fateful day two and a half years ago.
I don't think I have enough time to do that here so I'll get to the bottomline.
I've gone from 250 pounds to around 174 pounds. There has been a lot of changes to my body. And before I continue on to the next phase of my transformation I need to find a good....and I mean a GOOD doctor to give me a full physical and a full evaluation of what exactly did I do to my body.
I need a doctor in the New York City area who is also a bike rider/runner and/or fitness enthusiast (triathelete?) who would be more sensitive to my needs.
I've dropped pounds but now I realize that I have very poor muscular development especially in the core and upper body. I also have a nagging lower back problem. So, if I want to get even more serious about my transformation I'm going to need a supervised training regiment now.

I suspect that such doctors are probably members of this forum as well. So NYC fitness enthusiasts/doctors....which one of you all wants to take me on as a new patient? I'm not looking for another clinic type of doctor who will tell the nurse to take my blood and urine and weight and to see him again in 6 weeks.
I need a thorough physical complete with all the tests so I can have a detailed analysis of all my vitals like any one would of an athelete......even though I'm not one. Did I do any damage to myself out of ignorance? Where should I go from here with my training? I need some encouragement and some good solid advice from a knowledgeable doctor....from the nyc area.

Oh.....and ya need to take GHI as well. :D

Any takers?

Really though, I need some solid recommendations to possible doctors that I can choose for a long term primary care physician. And I seriously need a thorough physical exam...treadmill,heart,blood,muscle,bone,x-rays everything.
I need to know where I stand and where I can go from here? :(

Okay try this, it sucks, but GHI limits your options.

1) Take out your GHI book and start calling the primary care physicians to see if any of them are atheletes, you may get lucky.
2) GHI should okay a total phycical, but you may not get all the tests you want
3) Lower back, would be an Orthopedic issue, so you need that specialty, Not sure if you can do that
on your own or you need a referral from the primary with GHI.
4) Muscle development sounds like you need the gym. Find one and go to Mens Health or Mens Fitness
for a workout program AFTER you find out your back is okay.

Your back is most likely from your weight, but you did not mention your height. Biking upright will be better than in a "road" position but ask the MD.

Try posting on 5bbc.org and nycc.org also in the Northeast forum here.

Claudette Lajam is a member of NYCC club and an Orthopedist in Forest Hills, she is a Cyclist and "may" take GHI.

Good Luck

Rob

Well I have GHI through a union and its GHI (CBP). I dunno what that means but I think its a little better than regular GHI. And I don't need a referral to go to a specialist. Thing is I really need someone who caters to physical fitness and such.
Oh, and I'm 5' 8". And currently between 173 and 175 pounds. Actually, the highest I've ever weighted was 270. So again, a lot of changes over 2 and a half years.
I suspect that if it wasn't for some loose skin with its isolated fat deposits I probably would weigh even less. So that makes me look quite awkward in the mirror. :o
