General Cycling Discussion - Cycling legs = Stay up in the Pit!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Something I discovered Friday night: If you go to heavy metal shows and get in the pit (for non-metalheads, that means the snarling mess of sweaty fat dudes pushing each other around in front of the stage), you can stay in place better if you have cycling legs. I was in Cleveland friday to see Amon Amarth, and the pit was the most intense that I've experienced since I saw Slayer in Albany last year, before I started riding my bike every single day. At Slayer last year, it felt like a losing battle to keep my balance and stay in place while having fat sweaty dudes bouncing into me from all directions. I found on friday night during Amon Amarth that now my legs are a lot stronger as is my sense of balance, and people were bouncing off of me rather than into me. One huge guy came at me full speed and then bounced off and fell to the ground. After I laughed at him I helped him up and he was HEAVY, there's no way that he shouldn't have knocked me down instead, but I guess he doesn't ride his bike every day. :)
\m/ Watch out for the cyclists in the pit! \m/

What are you doing in a pit with fat sweaty DUDES?
Did you have fun at the show?
And were you wearing your Viking helmet?

Well, there are more dudes than ladies at this show, although to be fair there are always at least a couple girls in the pit too. I had a blast, and although Amon Amarth is the perfect concert to wear my viking helmet to (they are Viking themed metal), I chose not to because the helmet is quite warm and it is already too hot at concerts. It's perfect for the icy fjords though.

Hell Yeah, Mother****er!
I went to a Children of Bodom concert last year, and Amon Amarth opened for them.

I went to a Wiggles concert.... I didn't dare go into the pit without a protector cup. The problem is not the size of the kids but the height at which they run into you. My wife had to extract our daughter from the pit.

I think that could be potentially far worse than fat sweaty dudes!
