Foo - Ice Storms SUCK! :(

Two years in a row now. Trees and powerlines down all over. No power(and don't expect to have any for a week or two). This is very depressing.

On the up-side......our water is frozen too. Wait ...nevermind. :(

Where you at Dragracer? No power sux. Do you have a way to heat your place? Do you have a generator?

Wow, sorry to hear that. We have had ice but it mainly caused travel trouble. The bad thing is that we have the same thing predicted to hit here this afternoon and i'm not looking forward to it.

So how do you cope without power in the winter? Have you left home? Any tips?

We have a fireplace but it is not really made to do much heating. More just to be pretty. It helps, but can't really stay there. We'll be staying at my mom's for a while I guess. Will just be an extra 50 miles to get to work. At least we have a place to go. I imagine there are lots of people that have it a LOT worse than we do. I feel for them. :( I'm really not sure if our water is frozen or if the county water district pumps(wherever the hell they are) have lost power. More of this shiiiiit headed this way. I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings. :eek:

Springfield, MO here. Last year was a mess but we got off lucky this time. It past through but the damage is minimal, at least on this part of town.

Springfield, MO here. Last year was a mess but we got off lucky this time. It past through but the damage is minimal, at least on this part of town.

We were in Springfield a couple of weeks after it hit last year. Man was that a mess! :eek: It's about like it was there...here this time. A friend of mine in Springfield said he was without power 11 days last year. I'm guessing it will be like that for us this time. :o We were VERY lucky last year. We had a buttload of ice but we never lost power. <SIGH>

I'm at work but my wife is at the house freezing her arse off. I think I'm gonna bust out of here, go get her, and head to my mommies house.

The funny thing is that rain or shine or sleet or hail, Walmart still makes out like a Bandit. Wife just called and said there were lines a mile long with people buying all sorts of crap to survive the impending storm. If I didn't know better I'd think Sam Walton is sleeping with Mother Nature.

Well, the one upside, I guess, is that when all those trees start popping, the smell of pine in teh air is awesome. Okay, maybe that doesn't make it any better, but I remember that very well from a bad ice storm we had in VA in the mid-90's.

Well, this is Kansas and our trees smell a lot like they look when they are popped. :(

We still have power which is an absolute miracle. But the day is young and the wind is picking up, so i'm crossing my fingers. :mad:

Several years ago I lost power for 9 days from an ice storm. That was no fun at all.

:p Ya know most people probably forget we lived without electricity for at least 3-4 thousand years of known and proven organized civilization. :p

Think last years was the "mother of all ice storms"Last years storm had more ice with it. There were places around here that had an inch or more of ice on everything. This storm only dropped about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. All the damage and power outages this time have been due to trees falling and that's largely due to the fact that many trees hadn't dropped all of their leaves yet, so the ice had a lot more surface to build up on. If we had had last years ice storm with the present condition of the trees we would have had twice the utility outages. As it is we have about 500,000 without power statewide.
