I think they're certainly peaking at the right time, just like last year. I really think NE is in for a let-down after fighting to go 16-0. I have been saying since we lost two in a row, that I didn't really care because we didn't need to be "great" then, we need to be great now. And we do look very, very good.

Well said.

When folks reply directly back in anger and equal manner to something that offends them, I'm reminded of this quote:

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Shoot, I have to remind myself of it sometimes.

Why all the hate for Tony Dungy? Bill Bellichek is as big an A-hole as they come. This running up the score on other teams is gonna come back and bite him in the a**. These guys are professionals, and they remember stuff like that. When they get the chance, someone is gonna break Brady's leg (hello Joe Theismann).

Nobody is talking about the Colts b/c they lost what, 3 games in a row? But they were hurting with a lot of injuries then. They are getting healthy again and peaking at the right time. I predict a rematch with the Pats in the playoffs, and the Colts don't blow a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter this time b/c Marvelous Marvin Harrison is back. Colts go back to the Super Bowl, where they will face Tom Brady, Jr. (uh, Tony Romo. He makes pretty good ribs BTW) and the Cowboys. Cowboys become first team in NFL history to make it to the Super Bowl 8 times, and they win their sixth. GO COWBOYS!!

The offense is supposed to try and score everytime they get the ball, and the defense is supposed to stop the other team from doing so.

If you don't like the fact the Patriots' offense is scoring on you at will, then play better defense. It's just that simple.

The whiners always whine. When its their own team running up scores they say its good strategy. I love offence and defence. If a teams defence sucks balls, they deserve to get abused.

Just like if a teams offence sucks, I love watching a 3-0 game with the linebackers running over the offensive line.

Both games have their place, people whine on both sides of the ball though.

BTW I dislike NE. I don't hate them, I just never liked them (if that makes sense), My support of them is my undying hatred of miami. If the colts were in this place, I would likely cheer for them. I want, in history, there to be two unbeaten teams. Takes some of the glory away haha

"The offense is supposed to try and score everytime they get the ball, and the defense is supposed to stop the other team from doing so."

Didn't Tom Brady speak those exact words a few weeks ago in defending Bellichek? When you are already ahead by 37 points with 15 seconds left to play, you take a knee and call it a day. You don't pass for a touchdown so that you are now ahead by 44 points. That's just rubbing it into the defense's faces, and it in UNprofessional. There will be a next time; Brady will have to face these teams at some point in the future, and he is liable to pay for his excess. Bellichek is painting a target on his quaterback's back simply b/c he is an a**hole coach, and he is deliberately running up the score at times. However, that being said, the Eagles and Ravens proved that the Pats are not quite the juggernaut the seem to think they are, and they can be beaten.

At some point, you know you have the game won and you take the starters out and call off the dogs. Even if it is the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

At some point, you know you have the game won and you take the starters out and call off the dogs. Even if it is the beginning of the 3rd quarter.I agree with this to a point. The last time the Pats played Miami, they pulled Brady and put in Matt Cassel, he promptly threw a pick-6, and the 3rd string defense let Miami back into the game. Miami, Buffalo, Washington, and the Jets are terrible teams, they need to learn how to play some defense. If you don't let most of your players play a full 60 minutes, even when they are way ahead, they'll never know how to complete games.

I worry about some scumbag player making a dirty hit on Tom Brady, but that can happen on the first play of the game too(remember the knee shot that Carson Palmer took in the playoffs).

As far as passing the ball in the fourth quarter of a game with a big lead goes, it works the same way as a few running plays. Catch the ball, stay inbounds, and the clock keeps running. It shouldn't be a surprise to the defense(like a running play would be) the offense should keep doing whatever it has to do, to keep making 1st downs. If the run isn't effective for the Pats, they have to stick with what works. Why should they run the ball, and be forced to punt? All that would do is let the other team back into the game(that would be truly insulting to the other team). No professional wants to play against a team that isn't trying their best to beat them.

Maelstrom
12-11-07, 01:15 PM
Wide receiver catches the ball...and because they have a lead, stops dead in the middle of the field (or maybe it would be more fair if he ran offield to stop the clock) and dances the anti-whining looser dance....while screaming...whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa so all those people won't think they are running up the score.

or

running back breaks to the left, oh my god, the linebackers missed again, the running back stops dead, runs back to the running back and helps him to his feet to let himself get tackled.

I will never get it, I played basketball and football, if I got spanked, I got spanked. I didn't whine or cry. Any athlete that does sucks balls. You learn from getting spanked and adapt or get better, if you don't you keep getting spanked. btw the football team I played for SUCKED, we got spanked constantly...only thing we learned was we were an unskilled heap of poo. We played with our hearts on our shirt...the lack of skill was just to great, not one team cut themselves back, and it would have been a great diservice if they did, I would have lost it if I knew they weren't trying for one second. I couldn't play ball but I knew how to kick ass, I have given the schpiel to my teamates in the past who whined, I stood by it then and still stand by it now. I congratulated every team that destroyed my team and did it with pride, heck, how would you feel as the ****e team, if you got lucky and got three touchdowns and won, would you give the game to them...I doubt it. play hard or go home. There should be no half assed in pro sports.

In tennis should a player not win a set 6 love? Should Tiger woods give up some shots to get his game closer? Should lance armstrong throw a bunch of race times to make the whole event more even? Should some dude winning the nascar 500 by 4 laps, stop and let the guy catch up? Seriously, this line of thinking defies logic and athletics.

Bosox first example is a perfect example of why, anything can happen in sports. You don't let the other team back in, you don't let them pick up momentum. Any true athlete understand that, especially in a sport where 3 touchdowns can happen quickly.

Maelstrom
12-11-07, 01:19 PM
Here I will do a defensive one just for fun,

team a) is getting killed by 30 points, Bruce Smith (decided to use a name, i am a defensive fan anyways) sees the score and instead of blowing by the lineman for a sack, stops dead in his tracks and lets the qb throw a wide open pass to the receiver who remains undefended in the backfield because the corner back is having tea.

np, I added some more, as I wanted to recite some of my experience with it. I remember having this same argument 15 years ago or so with friends about San Fran...I called bull**** then too. I even remember a game where the team played nice, put in the 3rd line and the opposition got a couple of good plays and caught up, out came the first line again...NEVER take the chance.

I could just wayne gretsky and messier stopping dead when they were up ten goals and letting the team catch up. Or what about basketball and the dream team, they won games by DOUBLE...and in a sport where the points rack up by 2 and 3 a 50 point lead is huge. Should they have just walked off the court. I have a million examples, I just can't comprehend, I would be embarresed to have a team put the c team against me, and it would be even worse if I won, it would be a disgrace of a win. Heck maybe NE should bring in the TO argonauts to play 3rd line haha

Any sport where an exciting score is 1-Nil is mind-numbingly pointless.

Also, any sport where the score of ZERO is referred to as "Nil" is excruciatingly pointless.

Any sport where the fans riot b/c their team lost and 100+ people get trampled to death in the melee' is pointless.

In other words, soccer, I mean, European football, is beyond boring and pointless!!

Did I mention any sport where a Mexican announcer has to shout "Gol" for over a minute until he is blue in the face b/c he is astounded that someone actually scored is brutally boring, as well as pointless.

Have I made my point??

The best way to watch soccer is through the news replays. They will show you the most exciting parts of the game. All 20 seconds of them. And that includes the guy running around after scoring the first and sometimes only goal 4 hours into the game.

I've seen a lot of non-calls in games(that benefitted the losing team), but we never hear about those.

Amen. The only thing better than having the '72 Dolphins no longer be the only undefeated team in a season, would be having the Dolphins finish a winless season the same year.

I think the Colts are a shoe-in for the Conference Championship game. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Sounds like stereotypical Texas ignorance. :p :D

I've caught plenty of touchdown passes and scored my share of goals too. I enjoy watching football, but I also enjoy watching American football. There's less physical contact in soccer, but more physical exertion and none of that "time out" nonsense ;) - plus the entire match keeps players on the edge. Make a big mistake, and it very well could be the game.

If you want to put something down, pick something that isn't really a sport (hint - they only turn left).
