Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Korean Keirin Decals (COREX) New project

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi All,
I'm really stoked about a new prject I'm cooking up. I got my hands on a "Corex" Korean Keirin frame that is a prime canidate for paint, no dents just a little weathered. Long story short I need some decals for it. If anyone has any info on the company please let m know. I'll have some pics up as soon as it gets back from the powdercoater (black) but this will have to do for now. Here is the link (the frame is from Stratton, thanks Stratton!!!)

Here is another Corex with decals:

So, if you know of any info on this builder, please LMK.
Also, if you know of anyone that can reproduce the decals, LMK.
Finally, the third option would be to just make my own decals. I was thinkin cursive in that silver reflective sparkly sticker material and di-cut it. :)

If you really can't find them anywhere, im sure Mike at http://www.velographicdecals.com will make you some. I don't think his prices are outrageous. If he doesn't have any in stock, he will draw you up some.

i love it as is.
zz,
thanks for the tip.
Jayrooney,
I like it too, but the bottom bracket is in some definite tlc. So, I figured I should just paint the whole thing.
Also, can anyone tell me if its possible to chrome the whole frame and just paint the topetube, downtube and the seatube? Will the paint stick to the chrome surface or will I have to scuff it up. If the chroming is too heavy I'll probably jus go with powdercoat.
Thanks,
TDHK

that'll work! cheeee!
that'll work! cheeee!
Only if you help with the polishing bits. :)
CHEEE WHOOOO!!!
Does anyone know what type of tubes the the Korean frames use? It uses Nagasawa lugs so I hope that would also mean quality tubes. I have since learned that quality is on par with Japan Keirin so
i would assume that materials would be too.

if it was North Korean made....human bones.
Would it be in bad taste if I were to put Nagasawa Decals on this frame? I know its not a Nagasawa but it does have its lugs (bb and rear droup out) and the builder did study under Nagasawa. Well, that's if I can't get the Corex decals ;)

personally, as a korean, i think it would be in bad taste. koreans have a bizarre love hate thing with the japanese, especially when it comes to manufactured goods.
honestly it won't matter because you'll never run into anyone who'll ever be able to identify it by sight as a korean bike, but say if you ever met a korean bike builder and told him what you did, he'd probably be pissed.
edit:
i take that back, i just noticed the nagasawa imprint on the frame. guess that makes sense because as far as i can tell no one rides bikes in korea. that is, other than the national track team, but it's that way with a lot of olympic sports... anywhere.
corex is popular bicycle brand in south korea. But corex's keirin frames made by Jin cycle, small frame bulid studio. There are many grade in corex kerin frame. They use nagasawa lug, tange tube or columbus tube, etc... I don't know which tube used in your frame, but corex frames are hand made frame with very good quality.

You can paint a chromed frame. Primer before the paint.

i dunno about most here, but i think that's doing a dis-service to both builders...

I agree.
If Mr. Nagasawa knew im sure he'd be pissed.
He doenst sell the decal sets for just this reason. I wanted a replacement set and wasnt able to get any. And i have a real Nagasawa.
