I saw a video clip of the Led Zep show in England last night on CNN. They sounded UNBELIEVABLE. I mean they just tore the friggin roof off from all reports.

NOBODY rocks harder than Led Zep. If they tour I will pay what the scalpers want to be at MSG in NYC. Oh yes.

C'mon, Pcad. I ain't no wet behind the ears n00b when it comes to music. I know a lot about it. A whole heckavalot. I grew up in home where music was the staple of our diet. :D

As far as I could remeber I was listening to Led Zepplin, Grand Funk, Black Sabbath, Edgar Winter, The Doors, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, etc. Before I was walking, I was singing with these bands through a cheap record player and half stoned from second hand weed. Music was, is, and will be my life.

Led Zepplin was a great band. But to claim, NOBODY rocks harder? I just can't agree.

So, who DO you think rocks harder?

So, who DO you think rocks harder?

Well I think we need to define, "rocks HARDER," first. In what respect do they rock harder? Heavy, loud, fast? There are so many bands out there that are harder, faster, louder. Bands that are just as talented or more talented. Is it because they have made a name for themselves by filling large places with huge crowds? What makes them HARDER than anyone else that can do the same?

I agree with substructure. Zepplin, Stones, all those fossils only need not to suck to be considered fantastic. It was kind of refreshing when whats-his-face from the Police admitted that the band's first reunion concert sucked.

I'd go, though, if the ticket was around $10.75.

I was a Zep completist in high school, but I pretty much moved on to other stuff after that. Got tired of the "dinosaur stomp" sound, I guess, especially after I discovered more underground acts. I still have all my old records, but they don't see the light of day too often. And, yes, there's stuff that rocks harder than Zep, though it was probably the heaviest stuff of its time.

That's not entirely true. Said bands may get somewhat of a pass, but that is because in their prime, they were better than anyone else. Simply put, Zeppelin changed the rules. They were the first to take control of their own tours. They were the first band that made serious money on their own tours. Ridiculous money.

I still have my old Zeppelin, Stones and Police records. I seldom listen to them. "Classic Rock" stations make me cringe. If I never hear "Freebird" again, I will not be unhappy. I much prefer to hear some of the newer stuff coming out.

It may be kinda silly to make a statement like "nobody rocks harder", but it is just as silly to argue against it. These opinions are totally subjective, colored by the experiences of the one with the opinion.

\off soapbox.

And yes, I'd go see them.

C'mon, the only way your gonna get a Zep reunion is if three people die. Otherwise it ain't gonna happen. Bonnham's son, no matter how good he is ain't John Bonnham.

Deal with reality and stop lying to yourselves. :p

Despite my skepticism, I don't think there is a harder rocking riff than the one on "Whole lotta love." If they can nail that one like old times, it might be worth even $11.75 to be in the audience.

Once some of you old codgers let go of your antiquated rock legends and stop buying their overpriced concert tickets we will all be better off. They we good in their time. Period. And that’s where they should have stayed. I have no problem that you can purchase their music. Let it live on for all I care – in your mp3 player. But when some idiot puts the defibrillator to these zombies so the rest of the world has to hear their raspy, cigarette burdened voices and watch their lanky, potbellied, drug starved bodies writhe on stage like a nightmare scene in a Quentin Tarantino movie, I have to draw the line.

But that's just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions ... Mine are usually right.

They have thier gorillia of manager, the late Peter Grant, to thank for that. I've read stories...

I still love listening to Zeppelin. I agree on the Freebird thing. Stairway to Heaven too. I'm not ready to give up on Classic Rock though. Sirius has a station that plays B sides called The Vault. Its pretty good. I just tend to stay away from the cliched, iconic and anthem stuff of the era.

I whole heartily agree on the new stuff thing. If i had to choose between Zeppelin and, lets say, Tool, I'd be camping out for the Tool tickets.

Led Zep rocks! Stones are okay. The Beatles...rockers?? LMAO

How come nobody mentioned The Who in that group of "best of"??

BTW...even though they are not "rockers" in the vein of LZ, my favorite group is, and always will be, The Eagles. For lyricism, rhythms, and layering of music in a song, nobody beat Henley and Frey. IMHO

.....They we good in their time......

Hmmm..... conflicting emotions on that one for me. I was and am a big Led Zeppelin fan. As a youngster, I had all their LP's, and listened to them A LOT. In 1975 (or thereabouts), I had a chance to go see them live at the San Diego Civic. Wow - to say I was disappointed in the show is an understatement. Sure, there was a huge party atmosphere, drugs, and pretty young girls taking their tops off all over the place, but the actual music was pretty horrendous. They were probably victims of a bad mixing board and horrible acoustics, but I could not clearly identify any "standard" song until about 1-2 minutes after it started - it was just noise. Even Stairway To Heaven was not immediately recognizable - it just sounded terrible.

Add to that the fact that as I grew up I found out that they really were just ripping off old blues tunes from other artists that never really saw the light of day, and so were making crazy money off of other folk's artistry.

But I still like listening to their recordings. :D

Its kind of like Dylan....dude could write some damned good music. It took someone else to really make it sing though. Perfect example is Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower.

I guess...... but when I backtracked and listened to the original artists and got familiar with the blues, I always liked the "real" blues stuff better. I guess it was a defining moment for me, and opened the door to my discovery of and resulting love for the blues.

Me too...LZ, RS, and the Beatles all opened up musical avenues I would have never touched on my own.
Regardless of your opinion of these guys, you have to give them credit for doing that.
