Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Jones - Desalvo - Steve Potts. Which one?

Which one should I get? Anyone know what is the wait time on Jones now?

That was the last I heard too...I'm pretty sure Matt Chester isn't making frames anymore either.

Matt is back! He's been filling backorders for the last two months- supposed to be full time again in Feb after he moves his shop to Canada.

Just talked to Desalvo, $2000 for a 29er ss and can have it by summer.

how much does Potts frame cost? and Jones? and Matt Chester?

yeah the story i heard was that matt quit for awhile due to some health problems that were associated with his welding (respiratory maybe?). not sure how much of that is true. this:

Since you are in Annandale, you could probably check out a DeSalvo and Potts in person. Joe P, who rides Wakefield all of the time has a DeSalvo. Dan H. who is in Silver Spring has a Ti Potts. You should be able to touch base with either of them on the MORE forums (http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/index.php?).

Jones, you'll have to get a Merlin made one or buy used if you want one before you are dead ;) He has a wait just to get on his waiting list (not kidding, spoke with him at SSWC). Once on the waiting list you aren't even in the build queue. That's why he is having Merlin build frames, he can't keep up with demand on his own.

Chester, he said he would never do disc brakes and I don't think he has changed that stance. Although now that he is building again maybe he has reversed that. Given his backlog from earlier orders, I sure wouldn't count on being able to get one of those quickly either.

Other Ti builders you might look at are Black Sheep and Dean. But you probably already knew that.

While all these builders are great, I suggest checking in with Scott Quiring. http://quiringcycles.net/index.html His price and wait will be shorter than any of the ones mentioned. If I had enough dough I would be riding a custom steel or Ti Quiring 29er.

I don't know if Scott does Ti forks. Email or call and ask. The rigid Quirings I have seen have usually have a rigid steel fork. I know James at Black Sheep does rigid Ti fork. Search the 29er board on MTBR.com for a lot of Quiring bikes.

Yes. For my riding style I'd need to beef up the fork enough that I think the benefits of Ti would be lost and I'd be left with a hole in my wallet with nothing to show for it. :D

What about a carbon rigid fork? I run a On One carbon fork on the front of my Karate Monkey and love the fork. The only other rigid fork I have ever tried is the stock Surly KM and that is really stiff.
