General Cycling Discussion - Poll, a transplant from another forum...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I read this question on another road bike forum, and thought it was interesting.

I humbly admit to buying products that no one has heard of, simply for the pleasure of being different.

I personally don't care what everyone else has .... I buy because of one of two reasons. Either I know the quality is good based on reviews in magazines, forums, or personal experience, or I buy what I like.

For example:
I'm not going to go out and buy the full US Postal retro kit because everyone else does because I don't find it to be a good looking jersey and I am not on US Postal. I will go out and buy a new Giro helmet though because I have put them to the test and like their comfort and head saving ability.

Never really thought about it really. I usually buy products after doing some shopping around and researching on my own to find out how good it really is. But I won't by something just because everyone says its the latest or greatest.

How 'bout ..."None of the above"

I buy cycling products because ....I think they will work well for me. Otherwise I wouldn't buy them.

I buy what i can afford.. and since money is tight, i don't have the pleasure to choose from the high end stuff..

So i guess it comes down to quality, what's practical, what is available, and which will give me the most value for my money..

I buy whatever I think will do the job best. IF that means spending a few more dollars, I will do so. Either way, I'm not at all concerned with what everyone else does.

I like trying promising new stuff, but also buy tried and tested.

I would expect a majority to say "I pay no attention" (as I did). In the real world, the fact is that most folks do pay attention. This is one of the reasons that advertising works.

The fact of the matter is that I try to do as little buying as possible. I find this a much simpler way. It does put me in a minority though.

I don't care what everyone else has, if it works for me
I'll buy it.
Some stuff everyone does have i.e. Giro helmets, they are
arguably on of the best out there (and it fits) so thats what I
bought. Other stuff very few people use (tubular tires for one)
but they work for me . . .
then again, I've never been a follower of fashion.

Thanks for the honest answers.

I agree with Dan that although most people claim to be independent thinkers, most have some outside influences on purchase decissions.
