Saw this at a book sale. Couldn't resist for a $1.

I bought that book new back in 19??. I still use it on occasion. Last time was when I tore into an old SA 3 speed. It is a useful book, and for $1, a catch of the day!

I recently used my copy of Glenn's to overhaul a Bendix 2-speed kickback hub. I've probably owned it for 20 years (and it has the greasy smudges to show).

Man, I checked that book out of the library once about seven years ago. Pretty cool book. If I ever see another one like it I'll certainly buy it. :D

It looks like it just sat in someone's basement. Cover is a little frayed, but pages are perfect.

I can try to scan in specific pages if anyone needs to reference it.

BTW...I figure the young lady riding the Pug UO-8 should be about 60 years old now. Copyright is 1973. First Edition.:)

Remember hot pants? Wish the pics were in color.

Yes, if someone wants to rebuild a three speed hub, Glenn's is the book. Likewise, it has great diagrams of brakes, shifters, and gear changers of the early '70's.

What I find amazing is the author's assumption that folks are willing to devote hours of labor to rebuild a gear changer or to replace the bearings in a pedal. Everyone I've known who worked on bikes were members of the "throw away the broken pedal" school of thought.

I love the Bicycle Mechanic they use in the photos.
Always wearing an immaculate white lab coat and a neck tie while working on filthy greasy bikes.

Looks like a Mad Scientist to me ... "Its Alive!"

But he's got those cool 70s sideburns, Bob! And are you saying you don't where the white lab coat when you're working on your bikes? And where's that guy's safety glasses?
