ummmm........looooooool :(

In between knocking Search, would one of you two please knock Search upside the head with a cricket bat?

Failing that a temporary fix/alternative would be nice. :)

Please

I've done my best W.G. Grace impression, and Search is still not working.

I see that you're relatively new. ;) Do you recall search ever working reliably during your time on this site?

In all seriousness, (or as much as we can muster) this is an ongoing issue, and you should probably look at search working as a blessing, rather than a given.

Either time has blurred my memory or I'm just imagining things but didn't search work, mostly, in 05/06?

Anyhoo, googling seems to work on the archives so that'll do for the moment.

Thank you and the costume store wants their clip-on beard back :p

use the google advanced search, setting the "site or domain" as bikeforums.net

Search is not working. System stops responding for several minutes when a search is entered, either keyword search or by search user name. Same in "search forums" and "search this forum". If I wait long enough, like 5 minutes, I get an empty search response page. View new posts still works.

+1 as of right now

Ditto to above^^^. Any idea when this might be remedied?

Search should be temporarily fixed for now.

As for the site going in and out ... It looks like the network is struggling this morning. We've got our team working on it.

In my email

I got one of the "101 spamming..."
Two of "ball bearings"
none for CultureSurfer
and two for khunningstunt

forum has one of each for the preceding . anyone?

I've been subscribed to the "Banned Users" thread. Some posts don't come through to my email, some posts I get multiples of. Can't seem to see any rhyme or reason to it. I've tried resubscribing and get the same results.

Why are you so concerned about banned users?

Why are you so concerned about banned users?

How about looking at the technical aspect and not the content. The forum isn't technically sound, and that's the issue, not what threads people choose to subscribe to.

I need to know when my puppet spamming account gets deleted so I can get another.

to.

and to Ziemas point, it may indicate a deeper problem that may be affecting other threads as well. But it could be a bug in the software that BF can't do anything about.

Seeing as this is Bike Forums, if you'd really like to get violent with search you could use a bike stand...

not seeing that working even METAPHYSICALLY...oh well.

Some threads show an extra (or inaccessible) page.
.
The naviagation tool at the top and bottom of a thread page will show "3 4 5 >" when there is no page 5.

Maybe there's a secret door in the page and then you get to collect all the stars and coins ;)

PS What is your browser and version?

Okay, it's MY turn. I have a friend request yet no clicking I offer allows me to accept or decline. I KNOW it's trying to but it DOESN'T. This has happened before and I use the blanket line of everybody that honors this site and our purpose is my friend.

Running Firefox on Ubuntu and with multiple forums open (tabbed browsing) if I mark one forum as read using Forum Tools, none of the others show bolds either though they have new unread posts. Also I just replied to a poll (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=486116) on the Communting forum and when I clicked back to Commuting by the drill down link at the top of the page all the unread bolds had dissappeared.

For the geeks: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080715 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.16

I edited my signature last night, and the edits showed on both new and old posts

This morning, the signature has reverted to the previous signature on both old and new posts, even though the edit signature text shows the new signature as does the preview of the new signature.

I have deleted the signature completely, and then retyped it, but it still won't show.

Here is the supposed new signature, copied directly from the text in the "edit signature" box. You can see the old signature below. I have done ^F5 several times - doesn't help. IE 7.0

Any suggestions?

EDIT: The new one (just below), not the one showing now at the bottom. I fixed it, see the next post.

I fixed it - it was apparently too long, even though it previewed correctly.

Reduced the font size, removed about 10 letters.

What does the "multi-quote" check mark do (lower right hand corner of the message screen)?

If you want to respond to multiple posts at once, check all those you want to see quoted in your response and then click REPLY WITH QUOTE.

Got it.

Heck, I've been doing this multiple tihing by cutting and pasting. This is a heck of a lot easier!

Search is broke. When I do a "find all posts by this user" on my profile, I'm stuck at yesterday at 12:06 pm.

This happened a while ago when I first joined in September, but was fixed. Is this happening to everyone, or am I special?

Rollfast
12-02-08, 11:44 PM
You are always special if you believe.

Search likes to believe it is always broke and is broken when fixed. It does not drive a neat Camaro though like Edward.

That's been an ongoing intermittent issue. Essentially, occasionally, the system quits indexing. They are working on a permanent fix, but haven't gotten one together yet that works reliably.

That was about how I understand it too. I'm glad Tom has folks that almost have it figured on a regular basis though.

Sorta reminds me of a CAR I had.:)

In a pinch use Google. If you're searching for "touring bikes" type into Google:

site:bikeforums.net touring bikes

Just swap out 'touring bikes' for whatever you're searching for.

These new Telus ads are horrible. The more heavily-animated ones make scrolling extremely slow.

edit: In fact, the one with the marching nutcrackers slow down Firefox pretty horribly altogether.

It seems the "whatcha doing" thread in Foo is hung up. I've tried clicking on the "last page" several times, and the database seems to get lost.

Same here. Firefox says it gets stuck in an infinite redirect loop.

Worked for me....FF3 and Safari and IE. Perhaps a temp glitch, or perhaps it's just getting too big? It does have over 77,000 posts in it.

Hit the escape key and shut down the animation helps a lot.

We are experiencing some intermittent network issues on the site that accounts for the slowness you're experiencing. The Internet Brands tech team is aware of the problem and is working on it.
