Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - iro sizeing

hey every one im looking at buying an iro mark V and was wondering how every one feels about the sizeing on it. so if you got one or riden one cough up your stats hieght, inseam, and what ever else you like. Im looking at a 56cm should be a nice jump comeing from my 62cm (1956) i believe raleigh conversion monster!

it's actually a bit big for my taste but i'm sure everyone will think i'm crazy

IRO sizes their frames differently than the norm. For example my IRO "62cm" group buy has a 59cm seat tube. So its like riding somebody else's 59cm. If I'm incorrect on this somebody can jump down my throat please.

I am 5'11 with a real inseam of like a 34cm. My Mark V is a 56cm, fits nice! Would not go any smaller, I think I could jam a 58cm with a shorter stem. Might be selling my frame, PM if interested.

stevenwk - What size road frame do you normally ride and how long a stem are you running? I am your height and like frames a little small, but my Soma Rush frame is turning out to be too small.

On paper a 59cm IRO seems to be not that different from my 57cm (56 top tube) Rush frame though. The Mark V appeals to me because of the low price and cable guides/drilling for a rear brake but I've pretty much written it off because the 59 seems too small and a 62 (59 tt) would be too big.

You have two major considerations to think about. First is the higher-than-road bottom bracket. And with that, the small head tube. So, what I've learned, is that if you are very comfortable on most road bikes 54, don't get the 53 IRO (54tt). It will feel way smaller and give you a much more drastic saddle to bar drop.

I'm 5' 9.5" with 32.5 inch cycling inseam. I ordered the 53 IRO on the group buy. Bad news. Way too small. There isn't anything I can do to make it comfortable. I have the stem flipped up with a normal column of spacers. Lots of seatpost showing. I prefer aesthetically, a flat stem. If I were to set up a theoretical IRO to get a flat stem, no risers, I have a feeling it's going to be their 59:eek: Their 56 is only marginally higher in the headtube.

Try very hard to find an IRO in a shop and ride it. It's really the best way to go about it. Short of that, talk to Tony and discuss your concerns with him.

awsome thanks guys i apprieciate your words of advise i think im going with a 56 i like my bikes a tiny bit small so ithink ill fit ok ( comeing from the freeride and street bmx backround). maybe today ill pull the trigger and buy that bad boy for my birthday present. ill keep everyone posted as soon as i get it its getting stripped from black. And going to baby blue frame with pearl white forks and getting lettered with "Get ****ed" on the top tube in some sort of script ive yet to search for. It will look tatsefull from afar but then you get close and see its reall colors! O It will be a looker allright

They are available in blue now, but it's probably darker than you want.

It should work well for you. I'm 6'2" and have a 62cm Mark V. It's on the big side of fitting me.

It's really a matter of saddle to bar drop due to a relatively small head tube and high bottom bracket. It makes it feel small compared to other bikes of similar top tube lengths. If you are limber enough or just like it that way you may be fine.

hey spacehippo - how'd the 59 fit you? i'm as tall as you...still not sure which size to get.

I'm around 5' 8.5" with a 32.5" inseam, and I ride a 56cm group buy that fits pretty well. I used to have a 53cm Mark V that was way too small.

I'm 6'2, my 59cm Mark V fits pretty well (a little small). I feel way too bent forward on it though, even with a 60mm stem. Is that just how track(ish) geometry works or am I just weird?

Anyone around 5'10" with a 31cm inseam have an IRO? I'm really torn between the 53 and the 56 and the only lbs I know that has IROs measures their bikes every time I ask them for a size and always gives me some number that IRO doesn't even make! Frustrating! I'm about to kick my stubby little legs all over the damn shop!

I'm 6'3" and have a 59cm Jamie Roy and that thing is tiny. I compared it to my friend's 59cm Pista and it is a noticeable difference. Definitely run small. Sweet bikes though. :)

I'm just under 6'0" and I ride a 59cm BFSSFGGB. With a 72 deg 90mm stem and a Thomson no-setback seatpost it gives me a very comfortable "Eddy" fit. Hope this helps.

wow i didnt think this thread was still around? well just an update i ended up getting a 56 its a tad bit small but thats how i like it.... its my have fun bike not go on long rides bike so it works out just fine for me

Update: I posted earlier about my group buy 53cm being too small and was looking at either the 56 or 59. I'm 5'10" with a 32.5 inch cycling inseam. I called Tony at IRO and he was sure to go with the 59. So I did. It's now built up and I'm riding it. Couldn't be more pleased. In fact, I'm still running it with a few spacers, flat stem (110mm) and it's still got 5cm of saddle to bar drop. I could easily drop it much more if I needed to.
