Were planning an 850 mile tour to Chicago in June, our destination is Archer just west of Ashland. I would like to know how suicidal IL. 1 is south of Whistler Preserve. We’ll be coming up from the south on a tandem pulling a trailer; I have a Chicago bike map that shows the Major Taylor Trail and the recommended bike routes north of the Preserve, but not much info south of that. We recieved a post on our crazy guy on a bike site that said IL. 1 was not good, but didn’t say way. Any info will be helpful.
