What are some ideas of things for a fixed rider ( one big thing, or mutiple small things) that would be nice for christmas. Just figured I'd ask since christmas is right around the corner.

What do you need?

I would like a nice wool jersey, because it is cold here.

A massage.

depends on exact needs

most often ppl should be spending money where their body touches the bike

pedals shoes gloves bars shorts saddle

maybe a fitting
?

then maybe where the bike touches the ground

a lot of people i see skimp on tires :(

How about two massages?

Nitro and doofo both come through with good suggestions.

Don't buy replacements for anything that has emotional attachment. I have an old disgusting cycling cap that's been under a truck with me, and my wife once bought a replacement for it. I wear it when I'm around her, but for the most part I wear the old disgusting one.

for the whole "fitting" thing... some of us would consider that an insult ;)

IMO:

Tires and tubes are always nice.
I always need another blinkie (gone through 6 in the last 2 years).
Wool socks/shirts/pants are nice if you are in a cold climate.
Nice patch kit.
Bike tool/Bottle opener.
Chain lube.
Nice headlight/headlamp.

Someone few weeks back said "some tubes and a bj"

I think I share that sentiment. I am quite happy with my bike. I wouldn't mind parts for my mountain bike, but honestly my bikes still ride so I am happy.

Lights are always good, especially if the person is still switching lights between bikes/bags.

A classy bell, like these velo-orange bells (http://www.velo-orange.com/bellsdingding.html)

Old timey cycling posters are nice too. (http://www.art.com/asp/display-asp/_/id--15329/Vintage_Bicycle_Ads.htm)

Ok. Here's what I would *actually* want for $250-$300

Cetma 5 rail rack
a pair o' Gatorskins
some not-too-expensive road shoes or a swrve hoodie

A street to track bike kit for those with a fixed gear they like to ride on both the track and the street:

* Track drops & grips
* Bigger chainring
* Smaller cog
* Extra chain
* Canvas tote bag to put it all in

Really depends on the climate and how they like to ride/what they already have.

A few good tires
Different set of bars
Clipless pedals
Shoes (sidis are cheap, if you look, these days)
Good jacket (depending on climate)

Why stop there? I want to see a custom Oury grip TT pad. If anyone asks, tell them you took it off your cyclocross rig for the day, it really makes things easy on your shoulder.

Those are really quite nice, but the one pictured gets a little sticky. The versions with a simpler design (also at Velo Orange) work much better in my experience. They are all pretty though.

I second the bike-phrenalia, wool jerseys and socks, warm riding gloves, nice tires, etc. As for parts, nice toestraps like are a hard to mess-up purchase. I think saddles and handlebar set ups might be a little too personal for the average gift buyer. I know I'd rather buy that kind of thing myself.

I'd also like a good repair stand, but I'm going to wait till I move home---too much to ship or sell as it is.

A hoodie with an integrated bandana

But seriously, if its for someone special, a custom mess bag would be cool and personal.

A truing stand!

I mean, it'd be great for me anyway, cuz then I could build my own wheels. If you're not doing that, I can't imagine it's really necessary.

Does a gift card to his favorite bike shop spoils the excitement? I thought it's most practical.

i think gift cards are pretty impersonal. this christmas we should all MAKE the gifts for our loved ones... maybe paper mache saddles, wheels, maybe even frames for the not-so-timid!! extra glitter and macaroni is completely up to you...

It's not for a fixie, but I'm ordering new cranks for my CX frame (39-53 w/ 11-25 in a mountainous town? Not happening), a cycling cap, a cycling computer with two sensor kits for both my bikes, downtube fenders for both my bikes, a set of Fox gloves (haven't decided which yet), and a new pump (to replace my non-existant one). Should come out to about 170? Oh, that's right. I get dealer pricing because I'm a mechanic.

Think about the little things in life that the recipient has overlooked. I've been complaining about a lack of fenders for close to a year. Just finally getting around to putting some on.

This thread reminds me, I think I'm finally getting a helmet for xmas this year, any suggestions on what to put under there to keep warm that's comfortable? I was thinking of just getting a cycling cap but I'd like something to keep the ears toasty also.

i like to loosen my helmet a bit and put it on over the hood of my hoodie. toasty!

lights, tires, tubes and bartape are always useful.

you gotta hound that dude to ship. took him a month to ship my rack out (i guess he ran out of stock first and then just forgot about my order).

For $150, this rack from VO might be an interesting alternative to a Cetma:
