See photo. Answer with opinion. EDIT: Photo is flipped for some reason, probably because of the webcam. Normal left side. Chrome Metropolis.

What about the size?

jim-bob
12-12-07, 06:43 PM
No, really, the size is just right.

Markok765
12-12-07, 06:45 PM
Really? Some people my size use bags that are about 1/2 as large and cover 1/2 of their back, the top part.

Either it is huge, or you are a dwarf. Who cares how it looks? Does it carry what you want? Securely?

Looks ok.

But are these kinds of bags really practical? I would think that a backpack that loads symmetrically both shoulders, to be better. Could some messenger with experience of both, chime in?

buttsecks.

I prefer not to ride with a 'conventional,' two-strapped, symmetrical backpack, as it makes my arms fall asleep after a few minutes. Maybe my arteries are too close to the surface...

I'm not a messenger, but this bag is practical, weatherproof [pvc lining] the strap is great, and so comfortable with all the padding. When I'm on my bike in the drop position, this bag is even better, as the weight sits on my lower back. It doesn't move around a lot, and I can strap it down so it doesn't move at all. I can also carry a tube of paper/flowers on the outside, and its 2.5X the size of my backpack. Also, its really tough. Last thing, unlike a backpack where the stuff fills to the top, this bag widens, and makes me more stable on my bike.

Sorry for the big post.

OK, but I was thinking if someone could compare this to the symmetrical backpack. All you wrote can apply to symmetrical backpacks as well.

i have a chrome bag that i don't use anymore. i don't like the asymetrical load. i use the biggest orlieb and i'm happier. i never have to repack it or fix the way it's loaded, etc. honestly i think the chrome backpacks look way cooler than their messenger bags.
