Continental Cycling… Heard of it? Those that take part in this style of riding believe that this undefined culture is road cycling without the politics and synthetic aspects. Instead, add in a little more dirt, punk style and triple digit mileage and you are closer to understanding the undefined sport of Continental Cycling.
We’ve all had dreams of hopping on our bike and taking a gorgeous ride with no ride home or bailout. To choose your own gear and route, and then ride with no turning back when the hard weather hits, this is the type of long distance ride I’m speaking of. Some of us have done more than just dream of this day, and for that, I commend your efforts and look forward to hearing your stories. For the rest of us, we are looking for inspiration and motivation to put these dreams into reality, and I have just the ticket for you.
Over the next 1 ˝ years, U.K. based performance bicycle roadwear manufacturer, Rapha, is cataloguing and compiling a collection of the 50 best rides in Continental North America. Best defined by the creators themselves, Rapha says, “Part art, part story telling, part resource library, our goal here is to document through beautiful photography, inspiring words and informative and useful ride details, the country’s most epic routes and events…We want to inspire and educate.” They are looking for real stories with all the details from real people who have undertaken the adventure and beauty of road riding at its most basic level.
And that’s where you come into play. Rapha is looking for your stories and photos to put together what will start as a blog and eventually be a hard cover book, mapping a weaving tour of Continental North America. “We intend to use story telling and sharing, beautiful photography, anecdotes, ride details and maps to engage each other. Because that’s a better experience, right?”. It goes a little something like this: You suggest the route. The Rapha team rides it. And thus begins the Continental journey to find the Best 50.
