I have two road bikes, which are my basic
transportation. They've reached the age where i have to start looking around the Net for parts in order to keep them running.
My more recent one, a blue '91 Peugeot Success, is actually more in need of help right now (i placed a Classified here for a '91 - or other that will fit - Shimano 105 left side rear hub dust cover i need for it).
A few years ago i replaced the original Weinmann wheels (which never stayed true for long) after an accident that trashed the original front wheel & the fork with a nice set of custom-built Mavic Reflexes (which haven't needed trueing yet) & a Sakae Litage FX fork. I had the original Shimano 105 rear hub built in to keep costs down.
My other bike - my "wet weather" machine - is a metallic green Puch tourer i bought used - am told it dates from about the mid-'70s. I've had this bike almost as long as the Peugeot, yet it's had fewer problems. (OK, i don't ride it as much).
I replaced the Puch rear wheel a few years ago. I had triples installed on both bikes & a few parts upgraded, such as Shimano 105 brakes on the Puch. I put good platform pedals with toe straps on both machines.
The Puch has Zefal plastic fenders with custom leather mud flaps i made for it. Probably will replace the Peugeot rear derailleur next.
We have only one bike shop in the area, which makes them a bit arrogant & they definitely will not go the extra mile for the customer, unless maybe you're buying a $2000 machine. So i hope to find some help & cameraderie here.
