A tick under $1100 on eBay with shipping, great shape, that's precisely HALF what the LBS had to get for this same unit. Now I have all winter to figure this thing out. God help me.
How about that red Pimp Daddy Conti 4000?
Pcad may suck at this sport, but NEVER doubt his Schwag capabilities.
Nice. While my new watt meter is on a unshwagtastic mavic op, I'm really liking the training with power and am now solidly among the believers.

You're supposed to start using it right away, you spend all winter training effectively so you can come out the spring and crush souls.

Does Wheelsmith make wheels? I thought it was just spokes and overpriced tensiometers.
My PT is built with WS spokes :D
Pcad, I don't want to see you posting in here until we have at least preliminary 5s, 1m and 5m numbers from you. Nice looking wheel though.

Looks good, but it's freaking snowing outside right now! Is that pretty red tire rated for snow?

Those 'old Zipps' are the tubies young man. Self respecting OCP ******bags like Pcad have Zipp tubies for chasing the fast kids on Sunday and Zipp clinchers for 'training' (I use that term euphemistically).

Real men rode today my little Reedy. See my 'Road Nazi on the Russian Front' thread on the Road Cycling forum. For the record all my clinchers are rated for snow. The tubies only see dry roads however.
I did.

I share that concern and try to keep the geek out. But in the very short time I've been using the watt meter, I've noticed the huge potential it has as a training and motivational tool.

Hooray for you. For me it's mostly been a demotivational tool. I need to stop comparing myself against two-standard-deviation mutants and guys who weigh 40 lbs more than me.
Pcad, you did already get The Book and The Software, right? The hardware is only 1/3 of the system.

See Caddy, you're wrong about the difficulty level. You can hook up the fin and the wires, and you're off. You don't even have to hit "start/stop" at the beginning/end of the ride. You upload the data and you'll see ave power, max power, and highs for given periods of time. Most of this you'll also see on the head unit. And... it's not like you don't have an army of powertraining obsessed "weenies" at your beck and call.
Oh wait, you're f*cked. You'll never figure it out.

I dunno. A couple of cannondales, some used zipps and a powertap doesn't really give you the required upgrade points. Perhaps you should petition but I'd get that credit card out and keep working on it.

See Caddy, you're wrong about the difficulty level. You can hook up the fin and the wires, and you're off.
Oh no. It's never that easy. Mounted the unit - DOA. I figured it was the hub batteries. Off to Home Depot to buy a 'Spanner Wrench' (the lameass manual's term) so I could remove the plastic cap that was tightened down with 9,000 ft lbs of torque. Finally got it off, replaced the batteries, put it all together and it worked. But it wasn't quite right (speedo seemed whacked), so I went through the whole setup and now it appears to function.
Hook up the fin and wires eh? Yeah, OK. So far that part took 3+ hours to troubleshoot and get working right. I hope this stupid friggin gizmo helps make me faster. I seriously wonder if I have the patience for all this crap. Maybe. Maybe not.
Who writes these electronic bike gizmo manuals anyway? The Bush Administration Foreign Policy Team? The only reason I'm giving this a whirl is because all you hard core racing lunatics insist this can make anyone (even me) faster. I can put up with a lot of crap and head scratching for that.

Is it me, or is his sharkfin upside-down?
That is how it's illustrated in the incredibly lameass Saris manual. That struck me as bizarre. I didn't write it. I looked at it again, and they have the wire coming off the top, but it looks like an upside down shark fin. I say 'looks like' because the illustration is pretty poor. I don't think it matters, it's working. I will check with Saris, try to find some zip ties @ Home Depot and remount it. That's amazing that you can't even mount the friggin sensor right because their manual doesn't have adequate instructions.
I'm keeping the other computer on there for a couple of reasons, but when I'm riding with the PT I'll snap it off and just leave the mount. Initially I want to compare speedo accuracy.
botto makes a good point, too

The mount in front of the stem is for the HID light. Pcad's velotech needs are beyond your bike weenie comprehension. You don't ride 12K miles annually without some pre-dawn stealth cycling.
You're all friggin total idiots. God, this is a club where I feel I really belong.
