Southern California - How 'native' are you to Southern California?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I put some thought into the options available, however there will be the chance that you may come up with a choice option that you feel, despite the generalities of the options, would be a necessity. That's fine, and I'm sorry - I'm just interested in getting a feel/knowing how many among "us" in the So.Cal forums have the longest histories/experience in the region.
If you are keen to do so, go ahead and post the level of your familiarity with So.Cal based on the time spent living here...
Myself: not born here, but certainly raised. Beyond that technicality, I'm a native. Lived throughout much of Southern California, moving over 16 times prior to heading into the dorms for the Undergraduate degree (which was a very long time ago).
I moved to SoCal 6 years ago and have been all over the place, mostly to ride my bike. In fact, many people that I know are natives have not been to as many places as I have... (Death Valley, Joshua Tree, etc.) Heck, some of them are scared of neighborhoods north of Jamboree (the road in Irvine) and refuse to go to LA for any reason...

I'm sorry about those peoples possibly mis-representing others, not all natives are the same ;) Some of us are more explorers than others!

Born in LA 56 years ago. Not more native than that. My pop was born in Sacramento so I am second generation.

I was born in Denver, CO, but then promptly breaded and deep fried in Clarksville, Tennessee (Fried Chicken Land). I've been grilled out here for about 17 years. But as the saying goes, "you can take the girl out of the deep-fryer, but you can't take the grease out of the girl." Or something like that, anyway...:D

It will be 2 years since I moved here on January 27th. I'm originally from Upper Michigan and my legendary ability to tolerate cold is but a distant memory.

I grew up in North Carolina and accepted a job out here almost 11 (!) years ago to the day. I've since lived in Pasadena, Los Feliz, Hollywood, Venice and now Topanga, so I've seen a lot of LA.
Born and raised....West L.A. Moved to Agoura 6-1/2 years ago. My wife grew up in the same neighborhood as I did, even had mutual friends, although we didn't meet until long after we were adults. (End of December (12-27), we'll be married 15 years. We dated a long time, though, since we met in 1986!). Spent a few years in San Diego at school.
Considered moving to Maui many years ago (okay, there was a girl involved :) ) Ha! Never did do so but one of my closest friends lives there so I can visit!

I'm sorry, but when you're *only* 28, NOTHING is a "very long time ago".

17 years do not count as native, you do bike well though. Next year CCC?
Second genration native. Born in Sacramento, raised in Portland, OR, moved to LA in 1989. Been here since then, 18.5 years. These 18.5 years I spent 4.5 in Glendale and 14 in Woodland Hills.

Huh?
By the way, after 17 years, the state DOES consider you a native. Actually, after 10 I think. :D

On my last birthday I was told I was only 3 years old...
...in redwood years!
I like it, since it seems to match my mental age, sometimes. :D

In 9 years I have completely succumbed to saying "dude" in every instance I used to say "man". Moved here in '98 from Atlanta - the Dirty South...although I have to admit I have no clue what the dirty refers to. Every time I get a hankering to move back I just go visit for a few days in the summer and that pretty much kills that thought cold.

3rd Generation native San Diegan. My great grandmother on my mother's side emigrated from Russia to the US and settled in San Diego in the 1890's. Other sides of the family arrived in the teens and twenties.

I come from mixed parentage.
Dad was a Bruin. Mom was a Trojan.
(BTW... I went to the same grade school as Luwin, the same junior high school as JPConrad and the same college as Ziptie. No wonder I'm all screwed up.)

It's as if you have a little of all three of them in you.
Oh...wait...perhaps I should reword that.

Born in the lovely Philippine islands, raised in Japan, back to Philippines for a couple of years, then immigrated here 4yrs ago. I consider myself a Californian now that I've lost my tolerance to -20C snowy winters. When I first moved here, I was wearing t-shirts this time of year. Now I need a wool coat to survive anything below 65F. ^^;
Ex-Pat Limey- SoCal for 26 years now, over half a lifetime (just!). No wonder the English locals think I'm American when I go back to visit.

Didn't realize Southern California was a state. I was born in Eureka Ca in 1955. Grew up in Tranquillity Ca til 1973 . Went to school all over. Santa Cruz, Santa Maria ,Fresno. Got my first real job in Costa Mesa Ca in 1980. Moved to Burbank in 1996. I still can't find a category I fit in. I guess lived here from 20-30 years, but been around for 52.
3rd generation Angelino. Maternal grandfather was a contractor on Union Station in L.A., father a flight engineer on Hughes HK-1 flying boat until dry docked next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, and I remember when; L.A. had electric trollys and buses; the Colloseum and Museum of Natural History weren't part of the USC campus; most of the SFV and OC were citrus groves; there were bean fields where Hughes Center and Marina Del Rey are; Balona Creek was just that; there were no hotels, or anything else, in Mission Valley, S.D.; and there were oil dereks from Long Beach to Newport Beach. BTW, regardless of what the "state" may consider native, the dictionary defines it as "belonging to a particular place by birth." :)

I knew there was a reason I liked you, :D:Ddo you know how few Native Coloradans there are. In fact there are more immigrants from California now in Colorado, than there are natives.
Hi,
Moved here in July 1979, six weeks after graduating from college. Lived behind the Orange Curtain until December 1989 and in Long Beach since then. ;) :)
Native New Yorker by birth, but now more years in CA than NY (28 vs 22). So based on the telecommunications company commercial, am I a Cali-Yorker? :D

Yeah, I can't wait till I'm 30. Really! Most people I spend time with are over 30, most women I date are well over 30... Once I'm 30, people won't be bringing up being under 30 as a chip.

Born and raised in Israel, moved to SoCal in early 1997, then to Amsterdam in July 2000, then to Houston in December 2003 and back here in July 2006. So, on and off I've been here 5 of the last 11 years.

Born in Upland 58 years ago and lived in Ontario until I was 6. Since then I lived in the San Fernando Valley, Santa Barbara, Ventura and back to the SFV.
