With the arrival of my Co-Motion Mazama tomorrow, today marks the last ride of my Trek 7200. Here are the numbers from the past two years:
In January 2007 I took my bike in for service: new rubber, spokes and a chain. It is a testament to Trek and my LBS that I rode 3,775 miles this year without incident (not even a flat)! Sure the BB, rear hub and the rear tire are on their last dying leg, but they made it! The rest of the bike seems fine.
In 2006 I logged 3,725 miles. Shortly after the 2,000-mile mark I cracked the plastic plate on the stock seat, snapped a cheap seatpost and popped 2 (stock) spokes. Once I replaced these with quality components, (DT spokes and a Thomson seatpost) I have had no issues.
Over the past two years I have wavered between 325#-350#. As you can see most of the stock Trek components held up nicely. This bike has only 32 spokes, but the hand-built wheel set has not failed. (I only replaced the spokes and the hub, these are still the stock Bontrager wheels). For you Clydes out there in my weight range looking for a comfort/hybrid bike, I can wholeheartedly recommend Trek. Plan on rebuilding your wheels once a year, or 4,000 miles, and this bike should give you many miles of service.
Two year total: 7,500 miles/ 20 miles a day.
