Commuting - REI BikeRacks? How can I pack alot of bikes in a short small room?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking for something like the racks REI uses in store to pack all their bikes together I think.
They sort of work like this:

In the store they'll have two rows of bikes facing eachother with their front wheels up as shown in the pic above. So two facing bikes only take 7'. I'd only use half of it due to room size but it would make the bikes organized and only take about 4 1/2' or so.

Here is the room I'm trying to organize the bikes in case someone has a better plan (not planning on trying to shove my xtracycle in there).
The short wall on the right is about 9' the top and left are 10'. The ceilings are less then 7' high so those stack two on top of eachother on the wall things won't work and I'm trying to make it easy for my wife to use so.

I want to avoid blocking the closet if possibly because it is where alot of clothes/coats hang up.
This one doesn't look like It would fit two road bikes with wider bars.

I found this but have never seen it mentioned. It might fit one on the right top wall and one on the left top and get 4 bikes in there. Problem is wife wife has 4 bikes now.

I have the Delta Vincent.

It holds 2 bikes to the wall, with 2 wooden shelves between them, and includes 2 plastic cups that you put on the wall to hold the rear tire. Not necessary, but nice to keep the tire marks off the wall.

The Delta Leonardo (http://www.deltacycle.com/product.php?g=57) is a single hook that does the same thing. They're relatively inexpensive and you can buy as many as you need.

Alternatively, you could build a rack similar to what you show in your picture out of 2x4s or PVC if you don't mind the "ghetto factor", but I don't know where you'd buy a rack like that. My LBS uses the same kind of rack for the BMX showroom area. The rest of the bikes are on more traditional rail-mounted racks.

Would two drop bar road bike fit in that rack though? I always see it with a flat bar and drop bar bike so I can never tell. I've really been looking on and off for far too long (2 years) and should just get somethign already. Anything has to be better then nothing :)

Everything's for sale. If your LBS, or REI, has a rack you like and they don't have a price tag on it, talk to the manager and tell him that this is exactly what you're looking for and you'd like to make a deal; ask if he'll sell you the one off the floor or special order you one.

Certainly some stores or managers will occasionally refuse to accept the money you eagerly desire to hand over to them, but if they're in business to make money, I'll bet most could be convinced.

If you're not constantly taking them on/off(ie,actual storage),I recommend one of these:

I keep 6 bikes in my bedroom with one of those. If you're going to be pulling them down every day,I'd suggest something like this Topeak:

If you buy the extra hooks, you can put two bikes on each side. Caution though, only use on hard floor. Tried to use one on carpeting and it fell over.

Many can simply order the item you want.
I wanted a rack that the shop was using to hold bikes and they did exactly that.
