The Ride For Fatherhood is a father and sons team of cross-country bicyclists dedicated to improving the lives of children by raising awareness of the importance of fatherhood. We will depart Jun 2nd from Montauk Point, New York and ride our bikes to San Francisco, California to encourage strong relationships between children and their fathers. Fatherlessness is a major problem facing society today and our goal is to identify and attempt to eliminate or mitigate barriers to a strong and healthy relationship with both parents by advocating for legal, societal, and personal changes to enhance the bonds between fathers and their children. I am also hoping to serve as encouragement to other single and custodial fathers out there who may feel very much alone at times as there are so relatively few of us. Our website is at http://www.rideforfatherhood.org.

There is much more information about us and our ride on the website above. We are all Civil Air Patrol and Experimental Aircraft Association members and licensed ham radio operators; I also belong to the American Legion. There will be write-ups about our ride submitted to CQ, QST, and CAP/EAA/Legion publications as well as other magazines and newspapers/websites of interest. As a Public Affairs Officer in Civil Air Patrol, I am confident in our ability to get our stories published in both national and local press outlets.

Our ride is not so much a fundraising event, but part of an awareness- and publicity-raising campaign; the primary goal is to draw as much attention to the importance of fathers in children's lives as possible. To this end, we are actively seeking interviews and other exposure for ourselves and our sponsors through web, television, print, radio and other outlets as appropriate; we also have a comprehensive website and will be distributing printed materials at our stops across the country. This being a publicity campaign, we feel that we can try to help you as much as you help us in this respect.

The Florida State University Marketing Institute is considering taking over our marketing materials, and totally revamping our website. So far, the talks have been encouraging as their Director is very supportive of us. The result should be a professional marketing package that gets our point across as well as possible while presenting our sponsors favorably resulting in increased in visibility and revenue. We win, our sponsors win, and the Marketing Institute students win by having a showcase project for their portfolios.

We do need the help of sponsors. While our ride is being financed mostly through savings and one of the rider’s Military Enlistment Bonus, any assistance that we can obtain as a donation or in return for advertising considerations will be most appreciated. On that point, I am sure that our rider who has agreed to donate his bonus would be extremely happy if he were allowed to keep some of it to show after having committed to defend his country for six long years and endured several months of Basic and Advanced Military Training.

We are asking for your help in any way possible, from cash donations to gift cards to donations of goods and/or services. Your contribution will be gratefully acknowledged on our website with at least a banner ad linking back to you and a few short words saying as much or as little as you want about how you have helped us; more is possible (your logo on our t-shirts or banner ads on our site) for those who go above and beyond the absolute bare minimum. You will also be provided with any information you need including pictures, graphics, and bios so you can show your visitors and customers how you support your community and cycling as we all try to improve the lives of children across our country. We are also looking for volunteers along our route to help plan and coordinate father and kids overnight campouts with us as we pass through. Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
