I have been car lite for quite some time. I was only using my car less than once a week. But as the car I owned was in great condition for an old car and was a gift to me I didn't feel right selling it.

Well it turns out my brother needs a car, and I figure what better to do with the car then keep it in the family but for someone to really use it. Come new years I will officially be car free.

I like the sound of that :)

That's great to hear!
We're selling our car and using the money to shift cities instead of tapping into our savings, so our sale is with a purpose too!

Enjoy car free life!

yay

this is a great forum

i didn't know that "car-free" living has become a community focal point

~

I was in a similar situation, my sister gave me the car last year, but i was rarely using it ... but didn't want to sell because it was a gift

but she said i could sell and a fellow workmate needed a car to do animal rescue

coming up for rego and insurance, sold it for $500

I love car-free and I love that it's seen by people out there as a noble way of being

~

There is a strong feeling I will never own a car again, and I couldn't be happier

Start an automatic savings plan to take funds out of your bank account as though you were STILL paying for a car. In a short while, you'll be amazed at how much you've saved. Remember, don't go back. ;-)

I'm doing this with a different payment I no longer need to make. I now put aside the same amount of money and watch it grow.

I've been car-free for 8 months, and was car-lite for a couple years before that. I love my life without a car - the freedom and challenges.
I'm new to this forum, so this might've been mentioned in the past, but there is a great book that speaks to this lifestyle - How to Live Well Without Owning a Car by Chris Balish. It's a fun and very informative book with lots of ideas for making a car-free life work.
