It's been too long since I've ridden my Giant Cypress, so tomorrow we're going to get reacquainted. Had to really pump up the tires; they weren't flat but they were headed that direction.

Wonder if I'll be sore from riding a different bike?

Sore, yes, and regretful that you dissed the white bike. It will seek revenge. Do not ignore the white bike.

Trying to think of a way to put it to you genlly but You are going to hurt. After months of being ignored, the Cypress is going to bolt when you get it out on the road. 50 miles later and it will have lost some of its energy and you will be able to get control up the 5 mile 10% climb that is now on your quickest route home.

So take control and keep a firm hold on the bars.And remember that a bolting bike has no brakes and even less steering control.

I have both of my bikes set up pretty much the same and I really don't notice much difference when riding either one.

I'm looking forward to the day when I have to choose between bikes. Hmmm. The Trek or the Saluki?

That Saluki is really, really gorgeous. I had to go read all about it on Rivendell's website. Wow. I want one too!

I recall a certain place you used to stop for shrimp tacos or somesuch. They just might salve your painful spots. Be sure to tie up Old Trusty near a bike trough and later give her a good rubdown.

Crosschain, are you suggesting that DG rub shrimp on his potentially sore spots? I've not heard of that one.

Some of us do have this problem- Road or Mountain bike- Mountain or Tandem- Road for hills or the heavy bike for training or even Shall I strt polishing and cleaning the things.

The problem of N+ too many is a headache

It's about time that poor bike got some attention. It was your true & faithful servant until you threw it over for a more attractive, slimmer, younger model with a French name.

I'm surprised it hasn't packed up and left you by now.

Well, I'm back. Nice 25 miler in beautiful weather.

Not sore, but I can feel a little something in the backs of my thighs, probably from having a slightly different angle on the seatpost or something.

The Cypress rides on wider tires, and I have to admit I like them a little better on the urban roads I ride. I'm not as worried about small bumps or cracks in the road.

But she's slower and heavier, and my hands got a little tired as well -- not because of a lack of positions (I have a flat bar and bar ends), but because the grip is thicker than on Ruby Roubaix.

All that said, it was a fun ride.

Sorry, Bev. That sucks. I remember those views (growing up in Ohio.)

Low sixties here, no wind to speak of. Wore for the first time today this neat little jacket (more like a jersey with a hood) I picked up at Target for $20. I was as snug as a bug in a rug. :)

But, when I ride it now, I ride it closer to its design intent, and I'm much happier on it. This is partly why I'm finding it difficult to part with even though three bikes in my 450 sq. ft. apartment makes things a little tight.

You make an excellent point. The Cypress is really more suited for my urban riding, but slower. I like the silky boost in speed on the Roubaix, but I do hate stopping at lights on it or going through all that junk on the sides of the road. The Cypress is slowly being converted into my errands bike, as soon as I find what I want to put on the rack for bringing home books from the library or a small amount of groceries or whatever.

I do have an N+1 "problem," but I'll post that on a new thread. :)

Hey Bev. you just made me happy, I'm down here now. Now, if I could just get up there for a few months, during the summer.

Funny you should post this, I rode my Cypress a couple days ago for the first time in awhile, instead of my Roubaix. The streets were wet from overnight rain and with all the fallen leaves in the streets I figured the wider tires would be a safer, more stable way to go.

It was definitely a more upright ride and my average speed was down just a little, but it was really a pretty easy 18 miles, despite the heavier weight of the bike, and the 38cm tires did feel pretty sure-footed. But when I got back I discovered that if I'm going to ride it on wet streets, I probably oughta consider some Freddy Fenders, as my jacket got hit with some muddy spray from the back tire. I still like that bike, gotta say.

Definitely time to show your neighbours how nutty you are by getting out on the MTB. Get out on the trails and practice falling so you can get it down to a fine art- Get the frost over the front of your Beard and show them what santa should really look like and best of all- just get out and ride in those fantastic conditions. Remember it could be raining later in the week and that is worse to ride in.

I wouldn't need to ride the bike in the snow to let the neighbors know how nutty I am:D

The mountain bike trails are closed:( They're maintained by the local parks and don't allow biking in rain or snow. All the paved trails that are open but that just wouldn't be the same. Besides, we had freezing rain last night and I'm sure they're slicker than.......
