Mountain Biking - BB7s on the way

Just in time for Christmas. JUst ordered a set today along with a pair of DT swiss centerlocking adapters. I got an 8" rotor in the front and a 7" out back. So pumped.

why the 7 in the back, those are great brakes, i love mine, i am probably gonna replace the hydros on my p.2 with the bb7s

I guess the 7 in back for a more balanced look. It sounds stupid but I like good looking stuff, but I guess just to look a little different from the front. Really no legit answer. lol

ya that's fine with me. The mechanic at the shop asked why i wanted an 8 inch rotor and before i could answer my dad said "obsessive compulsion." and the mechanic said "good reason"

The front brake provides more stopping power, so there is some rational rationale for a larger front rotor.

sure it will work.. you don't even need pads or calipers the chainstay makes great friction material.


all kidding aside I was wondering the same thing seems like most xc frames are designed for a 6 inch rotor..

well i cut out a 7" paper template to see and it fit. But we'll all find out soon enough. Well, next week

if it doesn't quite fit you could dremel a very small spot on the stays. touch up with auto paint. alternatively, smash a small spot with a hammer until the rotor clears frame.

i hope you bought spare cables.

i don't think a dented stay would be too bad.. I've seen some nasty kickstand uninstalls on the stay.. But still I wouldn't do it.

nooo. Do you think anyone would order brakes planning on upping the size of the rotors without buying the adapters and rotors? everything i need will come with the order. The only other thing i had to order was a pair of DT swiss center lock to 6 bolt adapters. I knew what i was doing. I know you are probably going to say "well you don't even know if the rotor will fit in the back." Well it that's the case i'll just simply put on the calipers and order a 6" rotor. But i'm pretty sure everything will be fine.

for a bigger rotor you need a different adapter, for a smaller rotor you need a shorter adapter, otherwise the wheel wont fit in, or the caliper won't reach the rotor

holy crap. How many time are you guys going to whine about rotors. What do you think is on the back right now? A 6" inch rotor!! If I had to stick to a 6" rotor for the back, there would be no need to buy a new rotor. And I don't know who or where you guys buy components from that doesn't also include the proper mounting adapter or brackets.

I'm pretty sure Teboner has it covered. Adapter looks like it's Avid part no. 00.5315.012.010, rear 51mm IS to 7" rotor.

I just got BB7s for the front of my Trek 4300 and love it so far. Mind you I have not really used it that much, due to the foot of snow we got, but so far so good... Hope you like them too...

Why didn't you just get Avid Juicy 3's? They kick some serious a**.

Just in case you weren't joking, I'll point out that this would void the warranty on the frame. Last time I checked, those were a lot more expensive than rotors, even centerlock ones.

There is no need for a 7" rotor on the rear unless you're riding downhill. 140mm on 26ers and 160mm on 29ers is all you'll ever need back there.
