I have all of these programs, but I don't know what to use. Imovie 08 has no effect, but has youtube integration, and is easy to use. imovie HD has effect, but less integration. FCP has no[besides quicktime] integration, and its a bit harder.
What to use?

I only use final cut when doing high end editing. not for fun but when I am ready to put together a very high quality production.
I used Imovie hd most of the time because of how simple and quick i can edit on it. I have never used imovie 08 but I don't care for youtube. imovie hd works for most scenario's and can really make some nice stuff on it.
to take full advantage of FCP i recommend having livetype, soundtrack pro, Cinema tools,
I really think imovie hd is best for most amateur applications

Thanks! Could I just export from imovie hd lossless and into imovie 08?

Like vic, I use FCP or Premiere for high-quality stuff. For home videos that'll only be seen on DVD, iMovie's fine and can actually be quicker due to its simpler interface.
