God, i cant stop thinking abbout my new Kona Dawg.

For those that own or know alot about konas, what do you think the frame can handle to? I know the shocks are something else which can always be upgraded to take more impact, but the most important thing i think would be the amount of punishment the frame can take.

depending on your weight a good amount of punishment. It is a trailbike that born from a low travel freeride bike. It was originally designed to fill a gap between the Stinky (at that time 5inches) and the xc bikes (at that time 3 inches). Now the Stinky has been moved to 6 inches and the coiler fills the gap between the Stinky (6) and the Dawg (4). The dawg is still built very closely to those designs.

The only downfall to the dawg is the air shock. I would think it could handle 5ft (to tranny maybe higher) drops without blinking, but I am not 100% sure of the shock. It has the same burly rear triangle as the stinky. The fork would be another area of concern as the exr is a trail fork only and not built to handle much punishment. But really how much damage you do to your bike depends on how well you land. I know guys that can drop 7 ft on a xc bike from 4 years ago...but they are smooth like budda...me..I would wreck the bike going 3 ft...:)

My friend has the exact same bike in the small size. This is his first bike and he weights close to 200lbs. He's tried many things on his bike, (landing half of the things) and so far the frame is showing no signs of fatigue or wear. His largest drop was prob 5ft. Also the bike has survived a Panorama trip. He has bottomed the rear shock a couple of times and is about to replace his rear wheel. Other than minor adjustments and replacements, the bike is holding up very well.

Get a coiler, reasonable weight (30lbs) but super strong construction for FR
