some of you may remember that I was thinking of becoming club president to get some ideas I had impilmented. Well last night we had a board meeting. I was not expecting to have one until after the new year.
When the topic of new business came up I had 5 items I needed to address. 3 of those items were approved and are going to be attempted.
One is a safety campaign. I am going to be the Ride Right person for our club. Some of you may know what this is. For those that do not do a google search.
The other 2 were actually combined to be one in the same. Those were a organised bike ride in Sioux city to celebrate the Lewis and clark Expedition and a annual ride to benefit the bike trails. It was decided to make both rides the same and hopefully continue the annual ride even after the Lews and Clark celebrations have ended. So I have been incontact with our Park and Rec. dept. and other people to get this off the ground.
Western Iowa does not have much to offer for organised rides. At least compared to central and eastern Iowa. In fact we only have 4 to even speak of. My goal is to add one more plus do something to help benefit our bike trails.
Thankfully I have the boards support to do so. But even if I did not I'd still try to spearhead such an event. But with their support it makes it easier.
As far as me being club president, we'll see what happens at the annual banquet when the new board is elected. I will at least continue to be a member of the board.
Hopefully my advocacy will pay off in improving cycling in Siouxland.
