The RAAM is a solo effort, the proposed race the OP is talking about is going to a multi day tour, much much different.

Besides, the map posted is a (very funny) joke aimed at how ridiculous the original plan was for the Tour of America.

It still is ridiculous. Travel across a country of this size will not be conducive to what little rest there is in between the stages. What do they expect teams to do? Pack up all the bikes into flights? Or drive the distance overnight?! Sleeping overnight in a bus is not very helpful when you're competing at that level, this is why teams get hotels - better places to plan, recuperate, and so much more.

I could much easier see a Viaje de Chilé or Viaje de Perú than a tour of the United States, simply by the logistics of it all comprised with the country's size/scale and geography. Will those two ever happen? Only if teams want to kill off their own team members with the elevation and continual mountain stages, sure, why not? :)

All are very true, but with a $10m purse from the race organizers alone, I'm sure there will be plenty of willing athletes.

they wont cause Americans wont line the streets to see this. No tv network will show a bunch of bums drafting each other for 200miles and then have a 1mile sprint.

Thats the biggest problem, I think.... How many Tours can these guys take? I can imagine that, regardless of the money, TDF, Vuelta and The Giro would be a priority for these guys. Add that to the Classics, Worlds, etc... I know that the same guys aren't going to ride ALL of these races, but it's gonna start wearing the superstars of the sport way too thin.

I still think that, assuming the prize money is there, it will be good. Of course it wont be on par with the "grand tours" but I still think it will be worthwhile.

Come to think of it? A staged tour through Mexico would be amazing... Especially if they do some mountain stages through Oaxaca. Those roads are wonderful and legendary for a reason... wow.
