Yesterday (12/15) I joined a group of friends to participate in the annual Turning Wheels for Kids bike building at the San Jose convention center. All told, 1,700 kids' bikes were built up - it was amazing to see all those bikes in one building. The bikes are then distributed to under-privileged kids by a variety of charities in the bay area. Pretty phenomenal - maybe next year we should get BF build team together for the build.

Wow, that's cool. If I knew about this, I would have attended. Yea, we should get a BF team together to build one ... we have more than enough expertise to build one.

and 7 of those 1,700 bikes was done by me. It was very fun. A friend's boss is part of ROMP and we thought it was good way to spend a few hours in the morning to help with a worthy causse.

If there ever was a BF team I'd be more than happy to join.

If we're going to do this next time, better give the organizer an early heads up. I heard a lot of individuals were turned away due to huge turn out of volunteers.

We actually had a group of folks who signed up as a team - we bought our own tools plus 3 stands. A few were pretty experienced at wrenching, and did most of the assembly, while the rest of us schlepped bikes around, threw away trash, etc. A BF team would be a great fit.
