Yes, top tube length is OK, but the saddle is as high as it can go ;) It makes a good dedicated trainer bike though. Stands a bit high in the trainer and the shorter frame allows clearance. ;)

Oh! You have just reminded me that the competitive tractor guy down the road has most of his tractors out. Perhaps I shall ride over there and see if he's got them decorated yet?

Here's my '53 Schwinn. My build of this one isn't done yet. Some of the parts are just what I had lying around to get it ridable. Once I settle on a setup, I'll have the frame powdercoated and put it back together right. Should I keep the fork struts or not?:) So far it rides good, I did about 25 miles of singletrack last Friday and felt like I had been lifting weights. I may get the torch back out and shorten the chainstays an inch or so to make it more managable.:o

I don't think I've seen a paint job quite like that one before--like a sunset! I have an orange Rodriguez (with 650b tyres) and I am SO disappointed that the orange tyres are no longer made in that size. I think your bike would look splendid with the orange tyres...

For those lovers of tractors:

Swinging to the left:

The end of the tractor line:

Usually he has Snowmen driving, so I'm not certain if he's done, or if this is it for the year. I'll check back.

If anyone would like close ups, let me know. I shot from a distance so I could fit all the tractors in :) . The front tractor is pulling a sledge, by the way.

A lot of these bikes look to be running either stock rims or other box-section rims. Any problems? (I'm still researching rim choices for my classic rebuild.)

The mixte is a 1980 LeMans. It's the first mixte I ever rode. It's only high tensile steel, but it's still a lovely machine. I've left it completely original except for the saddle and seatpost.

Your Ironman looks to be a 1989 from the mottled paint job. Nice upgrades all around on the bike, and I imagine it's a great bike to ride.

All my bikes still have the original wheels--including the 1979 Nishiki Pro, which has Campy hubs with tubulars on Fiamme rims :) . Two of my bikes (the Nishiki Prestige and the Centurion Ironman) have 24" wheels on the front, 700c on the rear. Unlike (51), Antelope 70cm, barndoor, and a few others, all my bikes are tiny.

Both my Schwinn and Raleigh have the original Box rims.

Raleigh has 36 spoke Araya, Schwinn had 40 spoke Weinmann on the rear and 36 spoke Weinmann on the front

My modern bike, a Specialized Allez, has 36 spoke hand built Deep V's.

It seems that all the SS/FG folks have them--kind of like a secret handshake. I want to ask about that, but I am afraid that the SS/FG folks will smack me upside the head and call me bad names :o .

Wow!! 89 it is!! You really know your Centurions! I identified it as 89 because it came stock with Suntour GPX and I had read that 89 was the only year GPX was used although Shimano was also used on some bikes that year. Long story on the component upgrade. I didnt really didnt have to but I wanted to try brifters, although I have no problem with downtube shifters. Then if u gonna get brifters, might as well go 10 speed and so on........ I have a Fuji Roubaix late 80's I ride most of the time and it will stay stock. Shimano 105 6 speed index and shifts as good as any Ive ever rode.

I have an '87 mfg purple smoke fade Centurion Master Ironman, and was wondering if you'd know what the OEM rims were. It came w/Shimano 600 pkg on the Tange #1 frame.

Since you also have a Nishiki, I also ride (a lot) a Nishiki Sport, mainly because it's so comfortable. The OEM rims have no markings whatsoever. 4130 Chro-Mo frame. The down tube says Performance Equipe, and it's got the Exage SiS shifting, which tends to shift itself a lot. I'm thinking of making it a commuter bike w/no front 'rail and a shorter bars, wondered if the rims will hold up when matched w/700 x 25c tires (currently has 23).

Any help?

I have that same bike, and you've given me a great goal to shoot for. The serial number on mine says it was mfg in 88, but it has the Suntour GPX pkg. I also have the bike in purple, a Master, but mfg in 87. If you could shoot me any thoughts on the upcoming rehab of these, I'd appreciate it. Both have the smoked fade paint, the Master in purple, the Expert in blue. Did you have any problems finding parts? And, if I ride the Master in a criterium, do you think it'll hold up?

They like them because they come in colors. The only downside (well besides weight) is that they do not have eyelets, which increases the chance of craks developing at the nipple. That said, I have a set of Velocity Aeroheads (a less gonzo deep V) that I like very well.
