We are a family of four (Mom, Dad, 10-year-old twins) who will be riding from Alaska to Argentina starting in June 2008. We will be volunteering with Reach the World (http://www.reachtheworld.org as traveling educators as we travel southward. Reach the World (RTW) is a non-profit organization designed to bring the world to under-privileged children in inner city schools by linking classrooms with educators traveling the world. We will be the eyes, ears, and noses for kids in New York City as we travel!
We are seeking donations to Reach the World so that we (and three other expeditions) can bring the world to even more children. You can read more about us and our expedition at http://familyonbikes.org There is a donation button there which will take you directly to the RTW website.
Thank you all,
Nancy Sathre-Vogel

Creak
Come along Creaky!!! it'll be fun!!
Sounds like fun...have you done this sort of thing before?
The Reach the World traveling educator thing? No - we haven't. On our last tour we kept thinking about how it was such an amazing educational opportunity, but very few kids were benefitting from it. There were a few homeschooling parents who were following along iwth us, but not nearly like it could have been. As soon as we arrived back home in June we started trying to figure out how to set up classroom/homeschool connections for our next trip. Eventually we found out about Reach the World and decided it was a perfect fit.
We will be paired up with either 25 or 50 classrooms in New York City and will be 'teaching' them via the internet. We will post info each week about what we are learning - could be about the arctic tundra or grizzly bears or Aztec ruins or.... The kids will read what we've posted and then expand on that for the week. Basically, our journey will be the backbone of their curriculum. We are excited about the possibilities - the kids will be exposed to things they never would be otherwise!!
