fit a 20 x 1 1/8 rim to 20 x 1 3/8 tire?

Does anyone know if its possible to fit a 20 x 1 1/8 rim into a 20 1 3/8 tire? Im thinking it might be a per tire manufacturer deal since not all tires are created equal ?...

You need to find out the ISO size of the rim and tire. A 20 1 3/8 tire is usually 349mm ISO. 20x1 1/8 is not a normal size (although J&B Distributors sometimes mislabels 1 3/8 as 1 1/8 for the Sun M14A rim).

Go by the ISO size, it is much safer.

The rims I have are 20x1 1/8-451's... Most 451's are 20x1 1/8 and 20x1 3/8... I would just love to put a 20x1 3/8 on the 20x1 1/8 rim to give me a bit more suspension, and rim protection.

Any ISO 451 mm tire *should* fit on any ISO 451 rim. As we all know, of course, there are combinations of certain rims and tires that **should** fit together, but don't. Unless you have the bad fortune of hitting on one of those combinations, you ***should*** be okay.

Yeah, a database rating various rim-and-tire combinations would be really helpful, but man... what a lot of work that would be! Did you see this thread, it's to the point, though not entirely encouraging:

Those are great posts, on that link. A bit scary though sheesh. Sounds like a Crap shoot as far as what will work. I have never had problems with any tire mounting before so I guess I am going to have to be prepared for the worst.

Well, yeah, but the thing is...there should be no problem, but you may be unaccountably unable to mount a certain tire on your rim. If this happens, don't fight it-- return the incompatible tire to the store that sold it, say "it doesn't fit," and let them deal with it. Don't waste your time trying to use a tire that doesn't fit.
