I saw that in this morning's paper. I remember seeing him in Berkeley in 72 and again at some later dte. I also saw him in the late 90s.
I love his songs, particularly his earlier work.

I have all his early stuff on vinyl, in the garage, and only on eon CD. Maybe it's time to get that USB turntable and start ripping all the old stuff....

Yeah, I listened to a tribute on the radio this morning on the way into work. He had quite a voice. The first time I heard him I thought it was Anne Murray. I'm gonna have to dig out the old vinyl records of his tonight and give them a listen.

Yes, I too saw that when I logged on this morning. Sad indeed.

It's headlines in our local paper this morning because he grew up about 7 miles from here (Pekin, IL).

Wow. Hadn't heard but, ...Very strange coincidence... On a plane yesterday I happened to go "shuffle" on the full iPod library and the first two songs were Fogelberg oldies I hadn't heard in years (Captured Angel, Netherlands). Both were quite moving and had me misty-eyed....

"don't look now but your age is showing,
and it's much too late to turn back....
You better pull in the slack..." (Captured Angel)

"High on this mountain top,
Clouds down below.
Feeling so strong and alive.
From this rocky perch I continue to search
For the wind and th snow and the sky..." (Netherlands)

I saw him in concert with Tim Weisenberg (?)the guy who was the "twin son of different mother".

Do yourself and your loved ones a huge favor and GET CHECKED REGULARLY. I promise you, you DON’T want to go through what I’m going through if you can avoid it.

Deal, Dan.

Heard the news on the radio just as I was getting up this morning. Very sad. I saw him in a solo concert about 4 or 5 years ago. Very impressive on both piano and guitar. Great voice, great songs. He will be missed.

Really a sad thing. We've lost another great talent. I play some of his songs on the guitar and piano. "Run for the Roses" is one of my favorites.

Now I know why this thread was not moved to FOO like the Frampton thread. You posted it in FOO...smart. I suspect the mods probably think that Fogelberg was a pro cyclist.;)

Sad. Saw him in Jackson MS in '74, great entertainer live, really talented. He will be missed...

"Run for the Roses" is one of my favorites.

It's my favorite of his songs, too, as well as one of my all time favorites. Sad to lose him.

My principal interest in music is so-called "classical" (European Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods), but I greatly appreciate Fogelberg's talent and compositions. Reading Fogelberg's obituary feels a bit like Don Maclean's "day the music died."

He was my all-time favorite artist. Saw him live 3 times; have everything he ever recorded. Some on vinyl, some on cassette, some on CD. . . .

Once upon a time, my answering machine had the opening (instrumental) lines of Netherlands with my voice-over after a bit. People would leave messages saying, "Wow, that is so beautiful! Next time I'm stressed out do you mind if I just call and listen to that again?"

Sad news! I too saw him in Berkeley back in the day and have one of his songs on my iPod, the one with David Crosby on harmony:

I have these moments so steady and strong, a feeling so holy and humble.
The next thing I know I'm all worried and weak and feel myself starting to crumble.

Very sad news indeed.

Hearing this news yesterday just hit me like a ton of bricks. Dan Fogelberg is one of my favorite singers from the '70s.

So this morning I decided to listen to one of his CDs, and it turns out Netherlands was already sitting in my CD player. It's just so beautiful! But it will probably make me cry as I am getting ready for work...

Wow, just saw this thread, and passed the news on to my wife. At our Thanksgiving family gathering down in Dallas my wife's brother mentioned that he heard Dan was doing poorly, but I didn't know he passed away until reading it here. We too have some of his stuff on vinyl, some on CD. He was way too young.

The Fogelberg-Weisberg stuff was great. Hadn't thought about it in a while. Maybe I'll crank up iTunes this evening and get it back.
