So I'm sitting here working up some 2008 goals.

Anyone have yours ready yet? Slams, Ultras, Crowns, CAMs, KOMs? Any ride you want to do or climb you want to do better? Any tour, race or randonee? Mileage goal, climbing goal? Charitable donations, activities / other off the bike goal? If you want to do it, let's hear it....

one goal: ride my bike

merckx89

Lets see, goals for 08: Upgrade to Cat 3 is the number one, other than that, improve handling skills, and 8,000 on mileage.

Mo'Phat

Mine's easy:

Lose 40 lbs, ride and run more.

one goal: ride my bike

For me, at least twice a week. :o

thomson

make it to 2009

Make sure you take that "before" photo now. In the classic style of the weight loss ads: bad lighting, pushing your gut out, pale skin -- then after the 40lbs, you can oil up for the arnold pose!

Cassave

make it to 2009

Ha. The old dogs know what's important.

woof.

roadfix

I don't have a particular goal as long as I can continue to just ride, tinker, pose, run, and continue to impress girls on my fixed gear, I'm all smiles...:D

I do need to replace my roof though.

jsigone

My goals of 08 hummm

1) survive my first full road race season and be useful to my team
2) Ride 4000 miles, double of what I pulled off this yr in 07'
3) Have an average of 22mph on my lunch rides
4) Have an average of 20mph on all other rides, not including mt rides.
5) Climb South grade from taco shop to store in under 90 minutes
6) Hit a max sprint of 45mph (I need a 11t for that)
7) Shed any weight I can, I don't care, anything below 190 will make me happy

VanceMac

Ha. The old dogs know what's important.

woof.

That's only because you and JT have already accomplished just about as much as there is to accomplish on a bike!

Crash716

umm....win at least 1 Cat 5 race and get into the 3's maybe by the end of the year?

Happytime

I have "ideas" in my head but committing them on a public forum might actually make me answerable to them on a later date.

So I have no goals.

I have a goal for ya....maybe put some color into your biking outfits?...that's pretty easy and attainable.

awiner

2008 goal is to ride and have fun. Nothing more....

I'm a panda ninja. It's against our bylaws.

I'm going to be the oldest, fattest guy to win the TdF. ;)

merider1

I'm going to be the oldest, fattest guy to win the TdF. ;)

Yeah, and I'm going to ride RAAM on a unicycle. Wanna crew?

jpconrad

Yeah, and I'm going to ride RAAM on a unicycle. Wanna crew?

Sure, are you going to do it as a team or solo?

Cleave

Hi,

1. Organize my garage
2. Organize my office
3. Put solar panels on on the roof
4. Sell our 2001 Volvo wagon
5. Ride and race my bike
6. Ride a 40K ITT in under 1 hour

merider1

Sure, are you going to do it as a team or solo?

A team, of course. I just have to find another willing uni-rider.

Cassave

Pure hearsay.
And you can't prove anything without pics.

ronjon10

Yeah, I'm having troubles setting mine also.

Mostly, I'm going to stick with last years goal which was to keep riding and having fun on my bike.

Here are a few tangibles:
- 4800 miles (it's a 20% bump from this year)
- Mulholland Challenge (screw the other KOM rides, I'd rather do...)
- Sea to Summit (Mt Pinos at the end looked 'fun' and it's for charity (see below))
- Grand Tour Double (yeah I said double, but only if I can sucker people into riding with me)
- Raise funds / donate $10,000 for various charities
- Climb Latigo in 1 hour (pb is 1:05, but it's been around 1:10-1:15 the past few times)

If I do those, I'll lose weight, but that's not a specific goal this year.

Indolent58

1. Break 200 lbs (as in dropping below it.)
2. KOM
3. Force ME to give me my rightfully earned 2007 CAM credit. If this goes to court I'm going to demand punitive damages for emotional pain and suffering. ME will be sentenced to driving south of Camp Pendleton once a month for 12 months.

DaveSANYYZ

1) Climb up Torrey Pines in 7.x mins; went from 9m30s to 8m10s in 2007 :D
2) The ski lift portion of GMR; bailed 3x in 2007
3) KOM
4) A double century

robertkat

1) Century a month

2) Something else

jschen

Slams, Ultras, Crowns, CAMs, KOMs?

No thanks. I'm not even sure I'm going to do Breathless Agony again. Though currently it's the one ride penciled into my 2008 mental calendar.

Any ride you want to do or climb you want to do better? Any tour, race or randonee? Mileage goal, climbing goal?

I want to do Breathless Agony, but I may be too busy and/or too out of shape for it.

Charitable donations, activities / other off the bike goal?

Successfully defend a PhD dissertation.

GOALS
Upgrade to cat 3 (currently 4), preferably through winning/placing in a couple races (vs. 25-starts).
Top-10 in SCNCA’s SoCal Cup (http://www.scnca.com/rules.asp) competition and CBR's BAR series.
LONG DISTANCE RIDES
Complete the Planet Ultra KOM: Mulholland Challenge (http://www.planetultra.com/MulChallenge/index.htm), Breathless Agony (http://www.cyclingpros.com/onyx.htm), & Heartbreak Hundred (http://www.planetultra.com/HB100/index.html)
Finish the Assault on Mt. Mitchell (http://www.cvcbike.org/) in ~6 hours.
Beat my time in the El Tour de Tucson (http://www.perimeterbicycling.com/%21ETT/ETThome.html) from this year (4:59:13).
Compete more centuries. Did like 5 this year.
MILEAGE
This year I did about 8,000 miles. I'm satisfied with this. Maybe in the future I'll try and break 10,000. But, my other goals this year trump this.

VanceMac

Mark, you forgot: Team Liquid marches lock-step toward global domination!

(<-- not competitive)

tbrown524

1. Reduce Bodyfat by 10%
2. Double Century
3. Finish at least 10 races this year
4. Get the wife to ride more often.

prendrefeu

Possible, but not impossible:

At the end of year, hoping to have put more miles riding than driving my car.

socal619

1. Graduate
2. Go back to Cali

merckx89

That's a good one too. I think ill take that one up also

 Yippee! I knew you would get bitten. Ha ha! Don't worry. I'll be out there. ;)

All 3? Awesome, you ROCK! :D

 YOU'RE doing Triple Crown??????!!!! No way! Now, look at that. May the teasing begin, oh one of many protestations that you'd never be riding doubles. "No. I'm never riding a double century. No."

Now, you want to ride three? Yes folks, you are witnessing the deadly...I mean...wonderful manifestation of the Koolaid drinking! It works! It really works! :D

Yeah...sure. I may ride three. I may ride none. I may ride 10. As I've stated, my goal is to ride my bike.

Your goal, shall you choose to accept it (and you will), is the triple crown, KOM, and the grand slam. We all know you want it.

1. Make it to 2009.
2. Continue to avoid double centuries.
3. Think about trying to get under 200 pounds.
4. Have fun riding bikes.

curiouskid55

4 road races
10 crits
4TT's
Oh yeah ride every day except Friday (date night)

Kar3368

I did KOM last year, probably won't do it again though.
Do the major climbing rides... a few would be Mullholland Challenge, Sea to Summit, Angeles Crest Century(for sure, that is one sweet ride).

I was thinking about the Death ride but a friend of mine told me he didn't think I would be able
to make the cut off times!

Increase my average speed.
Climb faster.

Possibly do a Double Century (Grand Tour) as long as ME does it with me!!!

ronjon10

bah, you don't know til you try. If you want to give it a go, jump in the lottery, let fate decide for you :)

Rick@OCRR

Basically just KOM with Mulholland and Hearbreak as doubles; . . . then a bunch more doubles.

Have to keep my Gold Thousand Mile club going another year, plus My Dream Goal --> complete Terrible Two within the time limit.

Rick / OCRR & ADO

As much as I may want it, Ron, I can gaurantee you that I will not be sitting on the saddle for the hours it takes to complete the above. Not to mention the sheer misery...

scvroadie

I was thinking about the Death ride but a friend of mine told me he didn't think I would be able to make the cut off times!!

Karen,

You can do the Death Ride, you should have no problem making the cut-off times, if you can make the cut-off times on MC & BA, you will be able to make the cut-off times on the DR.

This last year it was too hot, and I didn't drink enough and I bonked. But I still completed the first four passes, within the cut-off times. In 2005 I took too much time at the SAG stops & lunch, I missed the last cut-off on Carson by 10 minutes.

Do like RonJon says, sign up for the lottery, and let fate decide. If you are one of the lucky ones chosen, I can provide a few pointers, that will help you be sure that you make the cut-off times. Learn from my mistakes.

If my weight is below 200 by the end of February I will reward myself and sign up for the lottery and let fate decide again. If I don't do the DR, I may do the Triple ByPass in Colorado, same day.

Have fun, stay healthy, yadda, yadda, and all the other givens.

KOM (I have specific time goal, but it's just an arbitrary number to keep me motivated.)
Everest Challenge (I don't seem to do well on consecutive days, so this will be a growth opportunity!)
As many road races as possible, since there are so few in the area.

And find a decent job before I have to take something that involves the constant smell of boiling grease.

Doesn't look like such a bad job.
