PS -
we ARE changing the name of the event for 2009; but the route will stay the same.
I think you should change the name to The Urban Assault Double:D

+1 Only it should be Urban Assualt Double D (just to spice it up a little) :p
Let me stick my 2 cents in so I can get my d%^& stepped on. I thought the route description on the Planet U site was pretty descriptive about the route: Caveat: This is a very urban route with lots of traffic lights and cars. The locals love it -- but if you're from out of town and are expecting quiet roads and lots of amazing scenery, you might be disappointed. Just being honest. If you know the area will enough to know the roads have a traffic problem and don't like riding in the traffic why did you sign-up? I know as an organizer trying to come up with routes that have no other vehicles on them is almost…no impossible. With route slips out early, we don't do it for some of the same reasons Deb mentioned. We aren't so worried about people having them early to check a route, but as to not being able to make last minute changes. I keep my route slips from all the rides I do, so if it’s a course I've done before I already have a route slip. Also the uninvited SAGs can be a major problem. Most of these people don't know how to SAG and are causing all kinds of traffic problems that further endanger the rider. If we have someone who just doesn't like part of a route and wants to go around that section I can't stop them and you won't have my blessing, but remember you will have NO support and NO one looking for you and I'm ultimately responsible for you so don't even ask.

Thanks ME!
I'll expect pics from you...
...AFTER you've smoked the ride. ;)
I have my camera in my car to take to check in tonight. I can't promise any pics from the double though, my jersey pockets are teeny, tiny. Definitely not made for double century riding!

Honey, I was so teasing you.;) I don't think you stop to pee, let alone take a pic. Although, do coo at any llamas you see for me, will you? :p

I would love to be able to take my camera, honestly! :D I don't know that I'll encounter any llamas, but I'll be ready to coo if I happen upon one. :p

:D (you'll be able to smell the llamas before you see them. They stink something awful, although I'm sure they'd say the same about me :p)You should have done the Stone or the Pie rides. Lots and lots of horses, cows, llamas, dogs, donkeys, chickens, flower fields, vegetable fields and avocado and citrus goves. We were on the less travelled roads.

Grumpy, one needs to be able to complete those rides to do them. :o But I'll keep that in mind for a future pie ride.

You could have done the Stone Lite. .6 miles and only one hill. No animals though.

Couldn't that be argued? :p
Finally got here, the traffic was horrible. It took 1:35 to go from the 134 to the 10 on I-5:eek:. The rest of the trip south of there wasn’t much better.
Herb, I already talked to Steve about this and I’m sorry……but you’re not going to be aloud in the Sea Chest this weekend.:D
I don’t take pictures, its not that I don’t take pictures it’s that I don’t like to carry the brick I have for a camera. ME wouldn’t ride in my jersey pocket, so I guess I won’t be doing pictures.:(

That sounds like a good idea, the only thing is I didn’t know that before. I’ll be going home Sunday morning. I’ll look back here later, I’m going to get a bit to eat and check-in. Back later!

Just got off the phone with Lynn. Looks like they under estimated to climbing on the ride by about 2000 feet. The total ride will be about 8900 feet climbing. Oh well ...

I knew it!!!!! I was saying early on that we had already climbed X number of feet and I KNOW that once we turn inland from the coast it is almost all uphill until we drop into the canyon...that we'll have to climb out of...oh, and then Santiago Canyon too! I just had a feeling that there was no way that 6900 feet was going to be accurate.
For the record, I ended up with 8701 ft and George had 8661, both from our Polars.
