Hey everybody, I am new to this forum and have a request....

I have recently moved to Salem, NH from my hometown in VT (Warren (Sugarbush area)). I go home all of the time to visit family and am in search of a good bike route that I could ride to get there instead of driving (my wife would drive up to meet me).

I am not too familiar with the roads down here so if anybody has done a trip from the southern NH area up to central Vermont and can recommend a route it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am fine with having to travel a little ways by car to get to a good starting point since that will not be an issue.

Thanks for any info and I look forward to participating in this forum,
JR

There are several good on-line resources for the area, such as:
Bike Coalition of Maine (http://www.bikemaine.org/)
Eastern Trail (http://www.easterntrail.org/) (from Kittery Maine to South Portland Maine)
Explore Maine by Bike (http://www.exploremaine.org/bike/bike_tours.html) (part of the Maine State web site)
Granite State Wheelmen (http://www.granitestatewheelmen.org/main.html) - New Hampshire
SABR - Seacoast Area Bike Routes (http://www.seacoastbikes.org/) - NH Seacoast and Great Bay area

I hope these help!

i'm guessing such a route from where you are to VT would involve riding on RT. 101 west. be VERY careful on this road. it's extremely busy with long stretches of no - or very little - shoulder.

Actually, regarding 101, once you get past Milford/ Amherst into Wilton it's a very good road to bike on. The hill going up to Pack Manadnock/ Temple is good fun. 101 will run into Peterborough and eventually into Keene (the intersection of 101/ 12 and 9 can be dangerous). If you survive, Rt 9W will take you into Brattleboro and you can figure your own route from there.

I like using Google to map out a lot of my routes.

Good luck, that's a long haul from Salem.
