Mountain - Plains - Ok, so who is still riding and who is hibernating?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have not heard form the bike shop where I dropped my road bike for a tune up yet... I'm calling them today and hopefully picking my bike up soon.
Also, my package from Performance should come this week so we'll have a cold weather ride this weekend!

When I'm feeling a bit naughty and spot one of those dogs on a long leash, or loose, I pretend to be digging for a weapon in my waistband or pocket, while glaring at the dog. Funny how often they reel in the dog or call it back, while glaring at me! I really should start carrying an air horn, I guess. Could be used on brain-dead pedestrians and pod people, too.

I've been way too busy but I'm getting cabin fever. So if it really is 40 degrees this weekend in KC I'm riding. It'll be ugly, but I'm doing it. I haven't ridden since late November and the withdrawal is now more than I can take.

Hell. The next time we see forty degrees here, I'll be so happy, I might just ride naked.
Yes. It does get crowded. I love the super long reel leashes. The person on one side of the trail, the dog on the other with a big long tether all the way across. You go hoarse from screaming,"ON YOUR LEFT!!" And everyone scrambles trying to figure out which way left is. Good times. Not so crowded this time of year, however.
But yeah, in Federal Heights there's this ugly house on a huge plot of land, and there's these weird statues all over the yard. Expensive looking, but amazingly dull at the same time. Well, if you're up any higher than that house, everything seems to dead end. Lower than that, and you can kind of zig-zag all through there. If you're over Shriner's then, yeah, I think you might have to take a trail or something.
I still haven't ridden much of the Shoreline Trail. When the weather is nice, I'm on the roadie. When it's crappy, it's usually way too crappy for trail riding. I need to do more of that. I like exploring.
That sounds like the route I take sometimes when I ride in to SLC to get over to Emigration Canyon.
But you're Mister Heatmiser.
:)
I forgot I need to change that. New avatar coming soon.

Got my bike back last night. Took a quick spin at lunch today (before my hands froze off) and the bike rides smooth and fits much better than before. All I need is some handlebar tape and you'll see me out on the roads of Weld County this weekend!

Finally got out and it felt great. Did a quick 20 miles on some windy county roads and even saw a couple of cyclists.
I am a little cold now... But I earned (I feel) the bottle of Imperial IPA that has been sitting in my fridge for a couple weeks!
Who else got out today?

The nicest day of the year, and I got sick. But I couldn't waste it, so I took a couple slugs of dayquil and hit the road for eight slow, sluggish, achy, nauseating, and wonderful sunshiny miles.
I hear Imperial probably makes the best IPA in the country. I haven't tried it yet.

I got out for 8 1/2 brisk, enjoyable, breezy miles! Loved the sun, loved being out there with nothing to worry about but the next slick spot. Even the air was breathable. :)I felt great!
Beautiful day! Got out kind of late, but made it to the water plant, back down, around the Capitol, across the Avenues, and through downtown to home. The air was so clean! (For those of you outside of our state, the air can get pretty rancid here in the winter, but not today). It took a while to get the salt off the bike though. Hope all of you were able to really enjoy the day - whatever you did - wherever you are...

I always seem to feel a twinge of guilt when leaving for a weekend ride while my non-cycling wife stays home. This is not a guilt that she exudes, but one that is self-inflicted.
Before going to sleep last night she told me she was proud of me for biking yesterday. That, and the ride, made me feel good.
In fact we are going to the gym today and I may "meet her there" and bike in, making for a 13.5 miles RT.
Also, after I had written my previous (and once my core temp rose to normal) post, I felt great about getting out and seemed to have shaken the deep blue funk that I was throughout the week.
The imperial IPA was good too (actually it was in the style of imperial IPA bottled as "Hop Henge" from Deschute Brewery in Bend, OR.)

Mmmmm Deschuthes.
I'm about to embark on my first real ride of the year... wish me luck!
Went for a little spin today to get the soreness out of my muscle from yesterdays belt testing. Wore shorts, jersey and paper thin jacket and was sweating my butt off. Colorado weather...I'll never understand it.
Thursday morning it was 1 degree. It's 57 right now. What in the heck!?
With that, I think I'm going to pull the roadie down tomorrow and ride my full 30 mile round trip commute.
I got some geek toys for the winter. I can now hook my bike up to my computer and race online against other bike geeks.

60F in January? You have got to love Colorado. :p
I am heading out on a business trip next week so I spent it on a nice family ride. Everyone had a blast. It is fun to enjoy things at a leisurely pace. Of course, these temps would have been nice for my century last week. Oh well.
Off to Wisconsin and working out in a hotel. Brrrrr.....

I think I might have the same geek toy - I have a tacx fortius. Haven't raced with anyone yet though. I think I should get more fit first.
But, temp in Lawrence Kansas reached 50+ today. So I rode 32 miles outside! Hope the rest of winter will be like today :D
Saw a bunch of roadies heading south on Beck St. from Bountiful as I was driving in to work today about 1:30pm or so. Was pretty windy but I still wish I had the time to get out.

Wow, cool. Is this the time to hit up Carter Lake? Like, before all the summer traffic with their boat trailers aiming for my left calf?

mostly hibernating. Have ridden the trainer here and there, and been outside on the bike a couple times since Thanksgiving. Skiing and weights and non-cycling activities will still be the majority of the schedule for a little while yet....

Blecccccccccccchhhh. Not a single day without a big chance of snow on the ten day forecast. Or a day in the forties. February is tomorrow, I thought the worst was over. I'm getting desperate. Someone really needs to start a support group for people like me.
The first really nice day, I am calling in sick, turning the phone off, and riding all day long. If I don't die of ennui first.
The plows are falling apart, we ran out of salt, and there's more snow on the way.

And here comes another one. UT can always use the water - but, but... The weather in Denver sounds nice. I'm envious. Let's see what the groundhog says... He doesn't really say anything, right? I hope it's overcast on the 2nd.

Maybe we need a Wasatch Front support group meeting.

The sun came out yesterday and shined all day despite a dreary forecast and an uncooperative ground hog. I rode all day long, on the old Centurion Le Mans, even though I don't have a cyclometer for it yet. I have no idea how many miles I rode, or how fast, or how long. It was just a ride for freedom. Like when you were a kid and you sneaked out of the house to ride in your pajamas after dinner.
21 miles in today. Standley lake loop on the MTB. Little nippy, but not unbearable.

I had a business trip that tuckered me out. Too much drinking. :p
Today I could have ridden but instead I took the kid and the dog on a walk.

I got 18 miles in on Saturday, around Windsor/Weld County. Of course, this would've been 20 miles, but I had a blow out 2 miles from the house. Had to hike it until I said, "F this" and called the wife for a ride. Stupid road crap and thorns...
Looks like it may be sunny and get in to the 40's this weekend! I'm clearing my calendar in anticipation.

Got back on Tuesday from a week in HI. 5 death defying rides in 65-75 degree temps, with intermitent rain showers throughout. Never felt so good to be rained on, half the time it was just misty and I rode without my rain jacket.
Very excited about the weather gods treating us with the warmest part of the week on the weekend.

Well....I made it out for about 30 miles Saturday. Felt like I got a good climbing workout in even though it was flat:eek: I had about 10 miles straight west into the wind about 5pm, yowzer! Or maybe it was the XC skiing in the morning? Anyway, felt good to be on the bike:D

Got in 30 miles on Saturday. After trying out the Poudre Trail (and getting foiled by deep snow), I and my road bike rode out the rest of the miles on CO. SH 257, pausing for a long drink and stretch on 257 and US 34 to take in the view. Good day to ride.
Also got a ride in to the beer store, where a 12 pack was purchased.

Well after looking forward to this nice weather, for a long time. Things took a disappointing turn this weekend when my back went out. I was all excited for my ride, but felt really stiff when I got out of bed on Saturday. When I got to the kitchen my back cramped and ****zed out, and I spent the next two and a half hours on the floor. It was so awesome. :rolleyes:The sun was streaming in the window, warming my face, and I could see my bikes in the front room.
So. Instead, I've been riding the heating pad, and muscle relaxers. The quack gave me some pills that make me dizzy, and a referral to a physical therapist. I can't ride, but I'm still elated the sun is out. Ride a few extra miles for me in the meantime and I'll get out when I can.:o
I'm still not sleeping, so I can't even get on the trainer. I have zero energy. Time for medical intervention.

Wow, Brian, wanna come over? We could play checkers on the porch like a couple old codgers.
You fricken old people. :) I was going to suggest a group ride sometime this week/weekend but now that Al and Brian are on meds, that won't happen. :)
Get better guys. I need someone to motivate me to get rid of this spare tire that has grown around my belly. I could barely get in the drops today.
