Mountain - Plains - Ok, so who is still riding and who is hibernating?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I won't be able to ride outside until March, weather permitting.
Sorry to hear Brian. When you get better, I want to do a Utah County ride. The only time I rode out that way was during ULCER last year.

We'll organize something. I can't imagine a group ride that doesn't end with Mexican food, alcohol, or both.

Well, count me in. Don't know when, or how slow I'll be, but I'm there. Just save me a burrito and a Heineken and I'll finish when I finish.

Oh, and wasn't ULCER just friggin amazing last year? Great ride. Great support. It's on my list again this year. I want to get in better shape so I can ride it totally fredded out. Toe clips, and racks on my 82 Univega ringing my bell the whole time. Maybe I'll wear an orange reflector vest.
Seriously, though, this thread helped get me through a very long, dull, and cold winter. And I think an End of Hibernation Group Ride is in order. If you can't come to Utah, that's fine, because everyone else has probably had theirs already. :p We're finally thawing out right now.

Got out for 19 leisurely miles on the Jordan Parkway today. Bright sun, blue sky, only a few patches of snow, and one of mud. Deep mud! Somebody wanted to say hello to a friend.
I wish I could see enough in that stupid cell phone view finder to know that I was taking a picture of the case strap!

I just got back from cruising up to Lyons from Boulder... finally, a sunny day with moderate wind! I'm so thankful my work schedule let me out today. :) :) :)
:( Stupid work wouldn't let me leave.

I was commuting like normal but it was nice to ride in a jersey and shorts. Too bad all my morning commute clothes made my messenger bag full as all heck.
Tomorrow my MTB and I get to play in the snow.

I'm sick, too... I still got out for a few miles. Should have stayed home, but... you know, life beckons and things need to get done.

Denver's snow this year has been nice. It was a nice ride in this morning.
However, an inch is fairly easy to ride in compared with when it hits a foot or more.

Nevermind. I took a drive at lunch and the roads are clear and dry (at least up here in Weld County). We may ride this weekend!!!

It had better melt. I am riding my Feb century on Sat.
I would rather not ride a century in snow again.

About nine inches of snow overnight here. Weather forecast for tomorrow is a high of 35. Trying to fight off a cold. I might try to get out for a few miles tomorrow. (Or not.) I HATE WINTER!! :(

I'm trying to have pity for the people that bought cheap homes in Eagle Mountain/Saratoga Springs.
Nah.

When Laura and I were looking for a house last year, we decided we should at least look out there. It was terrifying. I can only imagine what it is like in the winter. Well, besides being a gargantuan suburb in the middle of nowhere, with not even a grocery store. If there is a hell, it just might be Eagle Mountain.
Back to bikes. Okay, it's been a week, and I'm still a wreck. But I'm going to load up on meds and get on the bike today. I have to. I might only get around the block, but I'm riding. My girlfriend is mad and thinks I'm stupid for talking like this. What else is new?
Al, they have a grocery store there now. But it's still only one lane in and one lane out. You wouldn't want to ride a bike on those roads either. At least if the snow is too deep here in town, I can still walk to the sushi bar...
By the way, our LBS, which will remain nameless (I don't want him to come after me like some mad dog) really sucks.

Sorry to hear your LBS sucks. The house across the street is for sale, you know. We are just outside sugarhouse and the LBS scene rocks. My favorite is Cyclesmith, but there are many to choose from. AND we can buy beer on sunday. :p
But anyway, when you're ready, let's go limping around town on our bikes. Up here, down there, it doesn't matter. I still want to do the Alpine Loop, but feeling like I do now, the Liberty Park Loop might be a little more realistic. Get well soon, brother.
Alpine Loop by bicycle? I'm not much of a climber, so I'll stick to the Goldwing for that. But something flat around here when it warms up a bit. And my mother-in-law returns to Australia.
I'll do the Alpine loop with ya Al. We'll keep Brian's phone number handy that way when I have my heart attack trying to climb that loop, he and his Goldwing will be there in a jiffy.
Looking forward to riding with you guys this season.

You're on. The funny thing is, I got the Alpine Loop idea from a comment Brian made back in November. At first I didn't understand his sarcasm and actually thought he was suggesting we ride it in the snow. Of course, the snow wasn't as deep as it is now, but still, duh.
I don't think it will be open for another month or two. At this point, I'm guessing it is under several feet of snow. Either way, I hope you guys stop by and say hello when you finish riding it. ;)

I rode my bicycle today! First time since I got the flu over a week ago. Temp in the high forties, mild breeze, much sunshine. The Jordan Parkway Trail is clear of snow and mostly dry where I rode, from 5900 south to 8500 south. More damn dogs than you can shake a stick at though, many off leash, many rowdy. Thank goodness they tend to thin out when the weather gets warmer and the cops get out. :)
Didn't go far. didn't go fast, but I did go!

I basically don't ride if it's below 50 and I'm no fan of the trainer or rollers. But 10 days (thus far) of 50+ degree weather this month in Denver and time off from work has netted me about 250 miles this month. Based on the forecast for the upcoming weekend *knocks on wood*, I should be somewhere between 300-350 miles w/ about a dozen rides, not too bad for February.

I got in 32 WINDY miles yesterday, almost bonked, but felt good after I got home.
That breaks 100 for the month of February, which is good since I back on the road for the first time in a couple years.

This confuses me, since we know you've been riding. If not the road, then where? Do you commute across peoples' lawns?
I've been riding between storms for the last 2 weeks. Yesterday, I even got a ride in after work - it was WARM! I met a guy at the top of City Creek (well, at the water plant - you can't get to the top yet) who told me that he had ridden up there most days last week - and that he was in St. George with his wife riding last weekend in 55-60 degree weather. Spring is here? I don't want to jinx it... this is Utah, after all.
I took the day off yesterday and got a good 40 miles in. The longest ride so far this year. My back is kind of sore today for some reason so I'll probably just do an easy 20 or something today.

Confusion is relatively normal, lately, for me.
I haven't done City Creek since the end of December. It's not going to be easy. I managed to eke out of few rides over the winter, but no climbing at all. I don't like the slick descents. It gets cold moving that quick, too.

Yes, yes, and yes. But City Creek is ice free, thanks to the miracle of City employees protected by good work rules at the water plant. They plow and salt that road on what seems like an hourly basis - don't want any injuries or tardies... There is no ice to speak of now. Just up there today... Try it!

SCREW THE GROUNDHOG!!! And I won't wait for the Vernal Fricken Equinox. Spring is here. And if you're not riding, then you had better have a note from your doctor. Lets kill this depressing winter thread and someone can start a nice Springtime one with green grass, and bunnies, and sunshine, and you and your bicycle on miles and miles of warm beautiful dry sweet asphalt. The ceremonial removal of the Scotch tape from your helmet vents should be on your to do list this weekend.
Rober, I'm on it. City Creek. I may have to take a nap on a picnic table, but I will see how far up I get.

I've been commuting on my ATB all winter except for 3 weeks in December when I was sick, it snowed too much or I had some wheels issues. All good now. Can't wait for it to get warmer so I can move my biking to higher altitudes.
Hi Al -
Try it. We were up there today. Warm and sunny... Check out my new thread. Hope to hear from others that have become Winter Refuseniks...
