Saw this (http://uwnews.washington.edu/ni/article.asp?articleID=38352) article and I noticed when I switched to healthier food (more produce) I paid a LOT more for it.

So what's your bill, how many people does that feed, how many times do you (or others in your family) eat out a week, and where are you?

Bill: $40-60 per week
People: Just me but if people come over I can usually feed them.
Eat out: If I spend closer to the $60 than probably once or twice, otherwise a bit more

Lots of fresh produce, minimum of processed foods. Between $120 - $180/week, depending on how much meat we buy. Family of three, one dog, SF Bay area.

We eat out occasionally, mebbe 2-3 times a week.

I`m not 100% sure because my wife buys the groceries and I take care of all other bills. But listening to her when she comes home from the grocery store I suspect the grocery bill must be around $1,000,000 per month.

Seriously prolly $400 per month for 2, not counting diners out or beer/wine.

Me, technically I eat "out" everyday. I buy those Safeway fiddycent bagels. But probably twice a week maybe.

For the groceries, you must give me...

One Million Dollars

seriously: eating sushi take out 2-3 times a week ($75/week); grocery bills for one about $100/month : $25-30/week avg. not including the cats.

I've found that it actually costs LESS to eat healthy foods than junk. Fast-food and eating out 3x a day can easily result in $20-30 a day in food costs. That amount will buy enough fresh-veggies, fruit rice and fish for a week. If you've got a family to feed, $7 for a 20-lb bag of rice and $6 for beans goes quite a long way. And it's very fat-free and high in fibre, depending upon how you prepare them.

However, "grocery" is misleading. I would consider it everything that goes into my belly. Of which I spend about $500-600 in food a month and about that much in LIQUOR!!!

I spend about $40/week on fruits and veggies. I do eat a LOT of fruits and veggies though. I typically eat a 'bunch' of greens (spinach, kale, chard etc), along with ~5-6 pieces of fruit. That's just one meal and snacks. Then I have 2 other meals, usually sandwiches or oatmeal or some take out crap.

About NZ$50 per week (approx US$35) for groceries for cat and I.
It buys all the food, cleaners and other stuff I require.

I then probably spend another NZ$30 per week on junk food, coffee and instant meals when I can't be bothered cooking.

We were spending $500+ a month for two people (not including eating out).

Now that I do the shopping, we are down to $200 a month, have more food to show for it, and we eat out twice a month, tops. Granted, part of me doing the shopping is that we plan better together, too, so it isn't JUST the shopping.

I have no clue - but we raise our own chickens, sheep, and now have started on fish. We have a very large garden, and a cow that gives milk.

Like I said, no clue.

When all my brothers use to live in our house, for 6 family members it was about 400-500 a week. Now its just me and my parents, my mom has her own food she eats, so its about 100 a week. When I go off to college, I think my dad will knock off a few more dollars.

Bill: ~$50 per week
People: Me, my wife, and our cat
Eat Out: Once a month.
Location: Indy

We try to be cheap. I could easily eat $50 worth of fruit in a week if I bought whatever I wanted. Instead, we usually stick to what's on sale.

My weekly bill for a family of 4 is 175-225. I think that is pretty good considering I have 2 teenage boys.

Its hard to say how much I spend per week or even month cause I'll buy a bunch of food at once when its on sale and if its not canned, I'll freeze it. I do this with chicken, fish, meat, and bread (I usually only buy bread when its half off).

For the past few months, a $2.00 box of mini wheats from Target lasts me about a week, plus $4 for milk, so $6-7/week on breakfast. Thats probably the only constant in my diet, I try to eat differently (but cheap) everyday and night. Brown rice (price is so low its almost irrelevant), chicken, potatoes (try to get for .50/lb) are a big part of diet, so I'd be surprised if I spend more than $20-25/week.

This doesn't including taking my girlfriend out 1-4 times a week of course...

Seattle is expensive to begin with and with organic produce delivery and the stuff we buy it's up there. Food is not really something worth skimping on though.

This is why I try to grow as much of my own vegetables as I can. Sadly, there's only so much you can grow in the small space allowed by my subdivisions rules....but I can grow a few tomatoes, peppers, onions, beans, cucumbers, and spinach or mustard greens.

$125 a week. I eat all my meals at home (or brown bag it) except lunch about twice a week.
<$50 a week when my garden is producing.

I don't really keep track, but it's not too high on average, given that I forget to eat sometimes. But this week it'll be pretty high. Filet mignon is on sale, sea scallops are on sale, and Häagen-Dazs is on sale. Only time I ever buy these items. Don't get in my way. :D

I spend about $50 a week or less most weeks. I like to eat out once or twice a week if funds permit, but it's usually something like splitting a pizza with my roommate, getting some sushi takeout or grabbing a burger at Wendy's. I've never been able to eat as well (read healthy) in the winter months.

My GF and I drop about $225 a week. We eat a lot of produce which adds up. We also rarely eat out, taking our lunches to work %95 of the time or so.

its about 200 a week, two adult and two teenagers, since my dad an i are on a diet, we don't eat as much, but usually my brother and i eat all 200 dollars worth of food, minus a couple of dinners, the first night it is in our house. When i eat only what is good for me, it would probably be 1000 a week :p, i can eat a large movie theater size popcorn bucket worth of uncooked veggies in about a day or too.

Bill: $55-100 per week
People: My brother and I
Eat out: Probably 6 or 7 seven times between the two of us
Location: TN

My brother only eats in except on the weekend. I eat in except for 3-4 work days for lunch, and some on the weekend. I really don't eat very much and my brother eats almost constantly. He'll go through 2 loaves of bread and several pots of spaghetti within 3 or 4 days. I eat cereal for breakfast, usually a large lunch, and then rarely more than a snack for dinner.

$80-$100 biweekly. I don't normally calculate weekly averages because they fluctuate too much.

Single, living in apartment, NYC.

However, I am hardly home so I usually eat at least lunch outside daily at the moment.

I'm going to say about $115 a month. I buy mostly produce, juice, and basics - eggs, milk, baking stuff
I make my own whole wheat bread, and I don't drink much.
