Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - What are your goals for 2008?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Yeah, I know its not yet even Christmas. But I'm trying to get myself motivated to improve my life/lifestyle. I've been without abike for a while now. But in preparation for picking my newly build up Giant OCR 3 frame(105 derailers, Tiagra shifter, Reynolds solitude Wheels, FSA Gossamer Compact Crank) next week, I figured a good way to help keep me on track with my bike and wieght loss goals would be to put it out publicly.
So here are my goals:
1) Loose 40 pounds (gets me under 190).
2) Ride 2,000 miles - this is huge for me as I've never gotten over 750 in a year for various reasons
3) Ride 3 centuries
What are your goals for the next year?

What are your goals for the next year?
- Century-a-month
- 4000 miles for the year
- Double century (S-t-P in the Fall)
Century on the day that I turn 50. Piece of cake for me now but it was a goal that was in serious doubt when I first starting riding again.
Otherwise just ride and have fun...which should get me north of 6,000 miles again for the year.

I've lost 20 lbs so far, with about 20 to go, which gets me to around 190-195.
Fix my finances.
Keep commuting year round. (I already am so far)
Get back into racing next summer.
This year is setting my mileage for next years goals.

I'm going to try to log more miles on my bike than on my car again this year, although that's going to be tough if I have to drive into work next semester.

I'm torn between deciding if I want to do more centuries, or if I want to try to convince my husband that he wants to do any centuries.
I think I am going to work on more centuries for me. Plans are to go to the NAHBS in Portland in February, and then to the Cinderella Classic in March. Perhaps even the Cinderella Challenge in March :) .
One of these days I need to do the STP, but have never found it feasible with my work schedule...

Century on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, June 14th, in sub 6 hrs
A Triple Century later in June in a day, trying to beat the speed record for North border to South border of Indiana.
Some touring over the Summer as well.
Basically, ride a lot of miles :D

I think we should coordinate century schedules, so we've both got somebody to ride with. I don't know about my making it to NAHBS in February, tho. I'm doing the Chilly Hilly as a century ride starting from Redmond, and might not be up for a Portland trip in the same month.

I have trips, projects, and things I'd like to do. Nothing with a number (ok everything has it's costs) per se.
A 3 week motorcycle trip with the Tour of Colorado in the middle.
A Triathlon, preferably one Olympic distance.
Enough racing to upgrade.
And generally, be a better, healthier, wealthier, faster person.
My weight and mileage counts are both fine, but there's always room for improvement.

Are most of your rides on Saturday/Sunday? I'm just switching to days off in the middle to the week (Wednesday night/Thursday night off) as of January 12th or so.

All firsts:
century
olympic traithlon
marathon
I also hope to do some more sprint triathlons, and some other fun group rides.
I don't have any mileage goals, but I really hope to be in the thousands.
My main goal is to get down to 220 (I'm 265 right now). I want to eventually get lower, but let's start with 220, and see where we go from there.

Ripped from another thread
Mostly, I'm going to stick with last years goal which was to keep riding and having fun on my bike.
Here are a few tangibles:
- 4800 miles (it's a 20% bump from 2007)
- Mulholland Challenge (110 miles, 12,000 feet, 12 hour time limit, I plan on finishing last)
- Sea to Summit (87 miles, 12,000 feet, again I plan on finishing last)
- Grand Tour Double Century (not so climby, so not interested in finishing last)
- Raise funds / donate $10,000 for various charities
If I do those, I'll lose weight, but that's not a specific goal this year.

1) Complete a century in less than 6 hrs and as close to 5 hrs as possible. 2) Finally break the 200 lb. barrier and make it to 175lbs. 3) Reduce my weekly beer consumption............. Maybe if I can do #3, #1 and #2 will fall into place!!

My goals for 2008:
Ride at least 4 days per week
Lift 3 days per week
Get waist back to where is should be
Ride at least one century
Do at least one charity fund raising ride (could be combined with above or below rides)
Ride an NC mountain century
Train with a work mate who is planning a long tour in 2009

I want to ride 2000 miles next year
I want to be a true 'car lite' bike commuter
Continue to lose weight (I've lost 25lbs since August, got another 25lbs to go)
Participate in Sat. Spinner Miles (I didn't this year)
Keep up with my lifestyle changes. I'm cooking fresh foods, eating better, and exercising, I want to keep this up over the year.
Here are mine:
Push my average speed up to 20 mph for all 2-3 hour rides on rolling hills routes. I got up to 18.5 mph last summer, so this may be a tall order, but I'm going to give it a shot.
I want to do the Horsetooth Double Dip century ride in August. This ride climbs over 6800 ft, and is ultra-brutal for heavier riders.
I want to finish the Boulder Bicycle Classic century ride this year in under 5 hours and 15 minutes total. That includes rest periods and everything. My ultimate target would be sub-5 hours, but I don't think that I can ride that long without going to the bathroom, refilling water bottles, etc. I don't think that I will be doing the 23+ mph average that it would take to pull off a sub 5-hour ride on that route (not too many, but some biggish hills).
Go on more local group rides, to help me work on my group bike handling skills.

I am at just about the same place. Have lost 23lbs and want to loose and 20 I think. 15 for sure.
I am fixing my finances too. By the end of 2008, we will be very close to being completely debt free except for our house and will never use credit again. www.daveramsey.com

Prolly try to lose a little weight.
Me & a couple friends are planning on doing a multi-day statewide tour, so training for that.
Gotta get back on the soccer field more also...
Well since I fell short of many goals this year, anything I do in 2008 will be better than what I did in 2007.
1. Do more miles
2. Not have another knee surgery
3. Lose more weight.

I'm Kind of a Noob; I started riding my old mountain bike this past summer and started to get the fever for road biking. So next year is the year I get serious about cycling.
1. Get New Road Bike
2. Commute 3 days a week
3. My first First century
4. My first group ride
5. Lookout mountain by end of April
6. Vail pass by End of June
7. Mount Evans by end of summer
8. Lose 30 pounds
9. Off-season Spinning Classes
The only one I'm scared of is the Mount Evans one, I'm not sure how doable it is. But I suprised myself by blowing away some of my goals last summer, so I don't want to underestimate myself. If i can't do it, I figure I'll substitute Independence Pass for Mount Evans and call it even.

80 bike commute days [did 38 in 2007, 21mi r/t]
2000 miles [did about 1000 this year]
One "century", probably solo
Going to try an indoor trainer for the winter. Might be dull but I hate the gym and am not hardcore enough yet to ride in snow/salt/10*F conditions.

Lose 5 more pounds. I am already at my goal weight set by my surgeon (200 lbs), but I really want to be 195 without additional surgery.
Complete the Assault on Mount Mitchell in under 9 hours.
Ride the Assault on Marion with my daughter on the tandem.
Train better with less mileage (2007 ~ 4000, hoping 2008 ~ 3000. This is the difference between no job and full time employment w/travel)
Try either SS/FG or Cross riding in 2008

Well I came up short on my weight lost goal for 2007. Only dropped 25 pounds. Will hopefully hold that till spring. Had 2000 miles as a goal and I'm currently 84 miles shy of 3000. The current weather here in SE PA is not what I normally will ride in; but I will get those 84 miles in. Currently planning on riding in the rain this Sunday. As of now I have no mileage total goal for next year, but will go for a 30 pound loss, putting me at 200 pounds. So expect I'll ride close to 3000 miles again to make that happen. Although I really don't think it's that important, I will attempt to ride a 100 mile century in under a day.

We all need goals, here are a few of mine for 2008.
1.) 2500 + miles
2.) Lose 50 lbs.
Now the 2500 miles, as my wife informs me is 79miles a week for 8 months. Not too shabby. I may even be able to get her roped in to this!:) As for 50 pounds in 50 weeks, well, the more I work out, typically less I crave soda because of the carbonation. Gosh i hope so. Anyway, those are my little goals for 2008! God bless everyone for 2008!

Just get back on the bike regularly! For a variety of reasons, I was able to ride very little during 2007. For 2008, I'd like to average 3 days a week on the bike. That alone will cause me to drop weight ...

Mine are
-Ride a metric century per week from May to August(at least)
-Attempt a double century
-Run a half marathon
No weight goals, I figure that should take care of itself if I complete the rest :-)
I'm also planning a tour through southern Finland, perhaps 1500km or so over 2-3 weeks.
Here are my goals.
ride 7500 miles.
Finally ride a century (82 miles current record)
Drop BF<10%

Well, mine don't seem very impressive after reading everyone elses but here goes:
1. Get to 195 lbs. After all the cookies I've eaten that's about 15 lbs.
2. Ride the Tour de Stooges in May. (Metric Century)
3. Do at least one more Century over the summer.
4. Start riding to work on a regular basis. (20 to 26 mile round trip depending on the building I'm at.)
5. I found out that I can ride from Columbia, MO (my home) to Maryland Heights, MO (a suburb of St. Louis and the home of my in-laws) almost completly on the Katy trial and a couple of spurs. It will entail only about 8 miles of pavement. I will be looking at around 140 miles and I would love to do that in a day. That would probably be sometime in the fall.
6. Nothing to do with bicycling but the most important. Treat my wife better!
Joe
