I just started using a Giro Eclipse helmet after my old Specialized Air Force 2 started to show its age. I have noticed two problems with the new helmet. First with 24 vents instead of the 7 of my old helmet, it is extremely noisy. It may be much cooler but it also has a phsycological effect of me thinking I am going against the wind more often. Its going to take a while to get used to. Secondly, sweat just comes pouring out of the forehead section and straight down my face into my eyes and nose. I guess I will have to start wearing a head band or skull cap. Are these common traits with the newer helmets. The fit is so much better with the Giro that I don't really mind a few problems.

Skull cap will help you out!
I do a lot of hill work and I notice at low speeds/high effort that the sweat pours out the front of my Giro Pneumo. That's probably the only flaw in an otherwise awesome helmet. I wish Giro had put a little more thought into the front pads.
Part of my hill work involves a 12 minute 5% climb that's not a public road (read: few cars) so I end up removing the helmet for the climb then put it back on at the summit.
Glad someone else out there noticed the noise. I just got an eclipse and thought I was just being really weird. Love the helmet though,

I also find that my Eclipse echoes the noise of cars sometimes so that I can't tell if there's a car coming up behind me or if it's the noise of the one that just passed me. It's a comfortable helmet, though.

Skull caps heat your head up like a son of a *****. :irritated

If a skull cap is a bandana, yes they do heat your head up but they keep the sweat out of your eyes. I wear one because I shave my head bald every other day and if you have hair you have no idea what it's like to have sweat run down your face. If you take your helmet off when you break for a moment it cools your head down drastically bigdave.
on the contrary, i find bandanas(the pirate style) very helpful. it keeps away the sweat from my eyes.. I have not noticed my head heating up;) , i've only been using it for a month or so.:)

The helmet doesnt cover your ears so it just has to be the cooling vents letting more sounds in and down to the ears.Cooler heads will pervail.

Dexmax, which color do you use. I've been using traditional dark blue. You know the one that you can buy pretty much anywhere. I get a bit warm on the topside, especially when the sun is shining. And it's not like I don't sweat enough to keep it nice and damp. Just gets pretty warm.

Makers say not to paint them, but i think you could use a spray water-based acrylic to lighten up a dark helmet.
There are aftermarket pads you can get at the LBS or mail catalog to reduce sweat probs &/or fine-tune the fit.
If you wear a bandana, etc, try wetting it before you put it on.
