Is is OK to leave my Trek 5200 in my work stand when I'm not riding it? Or does this put stress on places it shouldn't. Right now I have it hanging down at an angle, I put it in the stand & let it find it's own position & then I tightened it up. It seems like the stress is on the seat collar.

What do you guys think?

My gut feeling tells me not to leave your bike in the work stand. But someone who is mechanically better educated will correct me.

Just out of curiosity, why are you leaving it in the stand to begin with?

What kind of seatpost do you have?

I have a Thomson seatpost.

I've been leaving it there it keep it up out of the way & I don't have any available wall space for one of the regular type of wall based bike holders.

I guess I should get it down & invest in a regular bike holder of some type.

I have been storing my mountain bike like that for a year now and it hasn't done any damage to it. I keep my road bike on the carpet though.

I doubt that it would do any damage, but I've doubted a lot of things before they happened. I'd leave it on the floor, but I'm paranoid like that.

Does your stand have adjustable height? If you really want to use the workstand as a storage stand, perhaps you could clamp to the very top of the seatpost and lower the height of the clamp as far as possible so that your wheels are touching the ground. This way the stand should keep your bike from tipping over. I'm not sure how much space you're saving this way though.
