I saw the Trek Portland the other day and was trying to figue out who would use it. It seems to be a little too heavy for commuting..or rather, there seem to be lighter bikes for strictly street use. But it doesn't seem to be tough enough for serious cyclocross duty. Where does it fit? Hard-packed rails to trails maybe? Hmmmm....

It's marketed as a road bike. It think it's genius actually and a great versatile concept. The stock fenders are totally an afterthought though.

Disc brakes + fenders = year-round commuter.

Would be better if they had put full fenders on them, got too cute with that aspect of the bike.

Sort of an updated version of the Raleigh 3-speed.
