Hi all,

i was just wondering what would be considered a reasonable weight for an audax bike? The type of audax rides are those that are unsupported and for distance that are at least 600 kms plus. Currently my Mercian weighs 16 kg loaded and ready to go but most of the weight comes from the Rohloff hub, that is also just carrying essentials.

Cheers to all and have great festive season, Scott..:):):)

I ride a lot of unsupported rides up to and including 1200 kms.

Machak, my Marinoni Ciclo, weighs 27 lbs (12 kg) including racks, bottle cages, etc. The gear I carry weighs probably about 10 lbs (4.5 kg) .... Total: about 16.5 kg.

A 25kg tourer is probably unreasonable though I'm sure some do it, it gets more reasonable from there. Some of us here tend to be a bit weight weenish, I haven't weighed my bike fully loaded but it's probably a little more than 10kg (sans water) for multi day riding. The less weight the easier it is to climb and accelerate, less energy used, more distance possible.

But 16kg is a "doable" weight. A few can get by a little lighter, but if you have everything you need for all weather riding --- then good deal for you.

When the bike stops breaking, it's heavy enough.

my bike with full fenders, front mini-rack, bar bag, redundant lighting system with 10 hours of batteries, cages, full built-in tool kit (w/2 tubes), 3 cages, and pump is about 25 lbs. add 2-3 pounds for clothes/raingear/emergency stuff and 28-30 becomes the weight before food and water. this is for 24 -30 hour rides.

Typical weight of bike+luggage+gear for a brevet of 400K or more, with clothes to handle conditions from the high 30's (F) to 100, with possibility of heavy rain, would be about 45 pounds. Bike alone with fenders, pump, odometer, GPS, dynamo hub, headlight, three taillights, and three empty waterbottles is about 26 or 27 pounds.

my Club Racer weighs about 28 lbs. unladen (complete bike + generator lights + carradice + rear rack + fenders+ empty water bottles + pump).

Rigged for a 400k, (tools, rain gear, spare tubes, some food) it's probably 34/35 lbs.

With gear for a 1200k (multiple changes of clothes, bags of nutrition powder, sleeping bag) it's probably closer to 43/45 lbs.
