Road Cycling - Front brake - left or right?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It seems that English shops set up the front brake on the right lever, whilst American shops have it on the left. I prefer the latter, so after much fiddling and faffing trying to get the levers off and the cables out, I made the switch. It's very annoying having to change them over every time I buy a new bike (not that I do very often), and I don't even know why I like it that way.
What's your preference?

Right side. You can signal and brake this way. Plus it's how motorcycles are usually set up.

I was told that all bikes in America the right side was for the rear. Just to confuse us old MC riders.

Like the UK, in Japan, front brake, right lever. I would imagine the rest of the Orient is the same.

It doesnt matter a bit to me. I use them both,, all the time. Just as I did on my MC.

My front brake is on the right, so I can brake with the strongest brake and do two-thirds of my signals at the same time (left turn and stop).
Main reason for me, though, is that I use the front brake the most on both road and mountain bike, so it feels better to me when it's on my stronger (right) hand.
My commuter was bought in Australia, so had this setup anyway. Confused the heck out of myself the first time I test-rode a bike in the US though!
I set my bikes up with the brake lever on the right side, I'm right handed so feels more natural to me. MTB was more of a pain to switch since even the brakes are really designed for the lever to be on the left side so I had to tear abart the brake piece on top (don't know the name) and reverse the noodle.

I forgot to mention, I'm left handed, which may be why I like it on the left.
