I have done this several times before with no problems but never with this type of frame. The frame is a 1987(?) Trek 800 Antelope MTB frame. It is made of Chromoly plain gauge MTB frame tubing 800. I want to go from 126mm to 135mm. I have never heard of this frame material before. Is there any more or less problems cold setting a frame made from this chromoly steel? I know this is not a high end bike but it should have many years left in it. Thanks, Rich

The deal is yo' steel is still steel fo' real.
Translation: It will spread to 135mm just fine

Speaking of cold setting steel.....
Is it necessary to c/s a steel frame when you have 126mm but your wheel is a 130mm? .... or is it just fine to spread it "by hand" ? I would go ahead and try it but am a little hesitant.....

edit:
It pressed apart pretty easily! The Mavic Cosmos fit in perfectly.
