While reading another thread and looking at youtube I realized how long it had been since the plane crash. 30 years ago I was in electronics class at high school when I heard the news. The story of that crash is terrible. It was clearly pilot error. There was a small problem after takeoff,
and in the process of fixing it the pilot accidently dumped all the fuel.

I went to a concert the summer of '77. :(

Went to a Ray Charles show once. When someone called out a song he wanted to hear. Ray told the audience that he would not play any song that an audience member yelled out. I can understand his being irritated, but Ray forgot who was paying the tab that night.

They made some of my favorite songs, and I give them dredit for continuing to tour after more than 40 years, but they just don't have enough good songs to be close to my favorite band. That designation goes to Metallica at this point.

I know where u coming from. I know there is still a band that calls themselves that but Ronnie Van Zandt died in 1977 and to me, so did Lynyrd Skynyrd. Actually, they only recorded 4 years from 73 to 77 with released albums although they were formed in the mid 60's and released some bootleg songs. What toured after 77 was remaining members and there are only 2 remaining members alive I think nowadays. My group, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ended with the plane crash in 77 while they were at the top of their game and thats how I remember them and thats why they are #1 in my book.

Gottdangit, I hated that guy! And I was in a blues band! It musta been the The Allman Brothers covers that confused him. But I have to admit, had the band stayed together we would have added some LS to the set list. Some of their more bluesy stuff is very good.
